Dogs would do absolutely anything to protect their beloved humans, and when one Canadian dog realized her owner was about to be mauled by a bear in the woods, she was ready to give up her life to protect the ones she loved.
On May 7, Kenzie Campbell, his girlfriend Samantha Emmons, a friend, and their dog Momo went on a hike at Banff National Park in Alberta. Yet shortly after they started on a trail, they nearly lost their lives when they ran into a giant grizzly bear. “We just made it to the trailhead and walked around a corner and the bear was maybe 20 feet away,” Campbell said.
The group tried to slowly back away, but the bear was startled and charged in their direction. “At this point, the bear was 15 feet from my girlfriend and the dog was barking and growling, so I let the dog go and she distracted the bear while we ran,” Kenzie said.
While running away, the group managed to call 911 and by the time they got back to the parking lot, Parks Canada emergency staff were waiting and ushered them safely into a truck. Shortly after, Momo made it back unharmed and the group waited in the truck until the bear finally wandered back into the woods.
“She’s a pretty protective girl so it doesn’t surprise me. She [is] also the fastest dog at the dog park,” Emmons said about Momo, who single-handedly saved their lives from the agitated bear. “She is a little queen right now.”
