Puppies are incredibly curious creatures and love to explore their surroundings, which is why they need constant supervision to make sure they don’t get themselves into any trouble.
One new Philadelphia dog owner, Jasmine Williams, unfortunately, had to learn this lesson the hard way after her new pit bull puppy named Jade poked her head through the rim of a car tire and became hopelessly trapped. “They tend to get themselves stuck in just about anything,” said Jenny Davis, an advanced veterinary technician at the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (VSEC).
Williams immediately called 911, the fire department, and local animal rescue groups, but even they couldn’t find a way to free Jade, who was now anxious and exhausted from trying to pull her head back through the hole in the rim. Finally, Williams called VSEC, and the team knew exactly what to do. “We told them to come right in,” said Davis.
“Jade was bright and alert, but she was extremely exhausted,” Davis said. “She was just so worked up and anxious from being stuck in there.” The team gave Jade a sedative to calm her down, and once she started to relax the muscles in her neck, they were able to slip the tire back over her neck. Jade was given some medicine to reduce any swelling in her neck and was back wagging her tail just an hour later. “Thanks to you that tragic story had a happy ending,” Williams told Jade’s heroes.
