Recently, a Utah police officer’s body cam footage went viral after it captured an unbelievable moment between the officer and an elderly blind woman.
However, Officer Kristian Johnson’s superiors weren’t surprised at all when they reviewed the footage later on and saw was Johnson, who was recently named “Patrol Officer of the Year,” had done after responding to a call to help a blind woman with her microwave.
Last month, Johnson responded to a call to fix Shirley Hardman’s microwave after she feared it was going to start a fire in her home. Johnson doesn’t normally respond to calls to fix home appliances for people, but made an exception for Hardman and asked if there was anything else he could do for her before leaving her place.
Just as he was getting ready to walk out the door, Hardman asked if Johnson could sing. “I don’t,” he replied. “I’m not a good singer.” Realizing Hardman wasn’t going to let him leave without hearing him sing, he asked her what she’d like to hear and started belting out the words to “You Are My Sunshine.”
“He was a former attorney for 15 years in Vegas and always wanted to be cop, so, he closed his practice and lucky for us, he works for us,” Logan Police Chief Tyson Budge said. “He has been unreal. He is unbelievable and is not a typical policeman. He is just a good human being and one of my favorite people.”
