A seal came inches from death as a great white shark was on the hunt for food off of Cape Cod.

In the video captured by Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, you can see just how close the seal was to becoming shark food, however, the lucky seal managed to leap just far enough away from the shark’s formidable bite.

The conservancy said that this was the first time they had witnessed a great white breach water during a hunt in Cape Cod waters.

“It’s really a testament to the speed and power that these animals can generate in such a short amount of space and time. It was able to literally come out of the water. It’s really amazing.” Skomal told the Boston Globe.

The most frightening part of the whole encounter was that it occured just 30 feet from shore in less than 10 feet of water.

The seal can be seen breeching water off the coast of Monomoy, Cape Cod.

Just seconds later, a huge shark breaks the water’s surface in an attempt to hunt the seal.
