Most full-time college students are worried about getting their school work done so they can figure out their weekend plans, but while everyone was out partying, one college student was taking on as many jobs as possible to keep a promise he made when he was in second grade.
For the past six years, 24-year-old Stefun Darts has spent all of his free time working different jobs like cooking at a Pizza Hut to answering phones for a customer service department to save up $15,000, which is the amount of money his grandparents needed to finish paying off their mortgage.
Cecil and Marilyn Roberts, Stefun’s hard-working grandparents, had taken him in to live at their home when he was in firs grade, and since then, Stefun vowed to pay off their mortgage once he saved up the money.
“I couldn’t stand you going to work at night, some nights I didn’t even sleep knowing it shouldn’t be like this,” Stefun wrote on a post to his Facebook.
Besides working non-stop over the years, Stefun tried not to spend too much money on food, and gave up much of his social life becuase it would mean wasting money on alcohol. Stefun’s grandparents couldn’t believe their grandson’s incredible gift, which also included two tickets for a trip to the Bahamas, but his sacrifices were worth it when he got to see their reactions to finding out they no longer had a mortgage to pay.
“Even with this, I could never repay you for what you’ve done for me. I sacrificed my teenage and early adulthood of not having fun for this moment,” Stefun said.
