Police officers are trained to see and handle almost any situation, but Baltimore Police Officer Ashley Acord never expected to find a new four-legged partner while patrolling the city’s neighborhoods.

At first, Acord only stopped at an abandoned house after noticing some suspicious activity around the house and decided to get out and check to make sure everything was ok. “No one was supposed to be there,” Acord said. Yet after calling for backup, the only thing she found was a gray and white dog who had been tied to a doorknob.

“He was actually groomed pretty well. He didn’t show any signs of aggression. He just seemed like he wanted to attention,” Acord said of the terrier mix.

Acord planned to drop the abandoned pup off at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, but by the time they arrived, they had already bonded and had become attached to each other.

As soon as she walked in the animal shelter’s door, Acord filled out and submitted an adoption application. When no one came to claim the 10-month-old after a few days, Acord got to officially bring the dog, which she named Grayson, home.
