Dogs might be man’s best friend, but for a long time, they have been the worst enemy of mailmen everywhere. In 2015 alone, mailmen were attacked nearly 6,000 times by dogs in the United States.
So when New Zealand dog owner, Michael Collins, started letting his 9-month-old puppy out in the fenced-in yard during the day, he was a little nervous that it might scare away the postman since everyone else seemed to think his massive puppy was dangerous.
Despite being a gentle puppy, Kyza is already a massive dog, and tends to scare off strangers because of his size. “He always gets over looked as a dangerous or unapproachable dog, Maybe cause he’s big I am not sure. He doesn’t bark at them or growl,” Collins wrote.
Collins decided to set up a hidden camera to keep an eye on Kyza while he was out in the yard, but when he looked back at the footage he was stunned when he saw what the mailman, Steve Hennum, was doing every day to the pup.
“Everyday whether or not we have mail, this mailman always stops to see my dog,” Collins wrote. “This guy here always makes an effort to get off his bike to give him a hug and a pat!”
In the video, Kyza jumps up onto the fence and wags his tail as he awaits his daily hug and pat, and adorably goes back to his business when it’s time for his new friend to get back to work.
