Huskies thrive in freezing temperatures, so this 8-week-old pup had to get creative to stay cool when she found herself in the Florida heat.

In the video below, Luna the baby Husky jumped right into the fridge on an empty shelf when mom turned around to grab more groceries. Unfortunately, in just a few weeks, Luna will have outgrown her clever napping spot.

When Luna’s parents weren’t looking, she hopped up into the fridge, and made the cool nook her new napping spot.

Most 8-year-old girls would want to spend their birthdays with their friends unwrapping all their new gifts. However, this charitable girl decided to tie winter coats to the street poles of Halifax to help the homeless prepare for the brutal Canadian winter that’s coming up.

Tara Smith-Atkins, her eight-year-old daughter, and seven of her friends worked for weeks collecting warm winter gear to hang up for the homeless to claim. Finally, on Smith-Atkin’s daughter’s birthday, the group set out on the Halifax’s street, and spent the whole day distributing everything they managed to collect.

The family spent a few weeks preparing by gathering coats and other winter gear from the community.

The holidays are quickly approaching, which means it’s time to start answering the painful questions about your life like ‘how’s the job search going?’ and ‘you still don’t have a boyfriend?’

To help you make it through all the uncomfortable family parties ahead, we’ve come up with a holiday drinking game. Just be sure to enlist the help of some equally miserable cousins and siblings so you don’t end up being that drunk person at your own holiday party.

9. Take a celebratory shot for surviving saying hello to everyone.

8. Pour yourself a glass of wine when someone asks about what happened to your ex-boyfriend, or why you still aren’t in a relationship.

7 Smart Reasons You Need to Start Holiday Shopping Early

$

While the holiday season is supposed to be about spending time with loved ones, it’s easy to get caught up in all the stress and anxiety that comes along with prepping for the celebrations.

Instead of waiting until the last minute to buy all your gifts, save yourself the time, money, and energy by getting your shopping done early. If you haven’t already gotten it all done, you might want to take a look at the top 7 reasons you should start right away.

7. Save Your Time

If you wait to get your holiday shopping done a few weeks before the holidays, you’ll be joining the hundreds of other procrastinators. Not only is it faster to shop with fewer people looking through the same aisles, but starting you holiday shopping early will save you from circling around the parking lot for an hour, and waiting on the miserably endless lines. Save yourself all that time waiting around by starting your shopping before the mad dash for holiday shopping begins.

6. Take Advantage of Deals

While most people believe the myth that the highest discounts and biggest sales are only during the final weeks before the holidays, stores have actually begun offering holiday sales and promotions earlier in the season. Some stores even begin their holiday discounts as early as Halloween.

Starting shopping early also allows you to watch items on your list before purchasing, to look for lightning deals and get the best price possible.

5. Best Selection

We’ve all shown up to the mall to start shopping for gifts to find all the stores are practically bare. Stores are typically fully stocked with their best merchandise starting in late October, so starting before the masses pick through the best items allows you to choose from all the colors and sizes available.

4. Spend More Time with Family

The holiday season is about spending all your free time with the people you love, not running around shopping. You’ll already have your hands full if you’re hosting family dinner, or traveling back home. Getting everything done before everyone’s back home will actually allow you to enjoy that precious time together.

3. Save Your Sanity

As you get older, it starts to feel like the holidays are more about stress and doing errands than having fun with your closest friends and family. There are countless tasks like grocery shopping, cooking, and decorating that you can’t necessarily get done months in advance, so lighten your to-do list as best as you can by being proactive with the things that you can do early- like shopping.

2. Space Out Spending

Giving a gift you know the recipient will love is an awesome feeling, but it’s not awesome when all that shopping leaves you with nothing in your bank account. If you start early enough, you can spread out the spending by getting one or two gifts per week, which will help ease the anxiety that comes with spending your entire paycheck in one day.

1. Save Your Money

Aside from being able to wait for lowest prices, shopping early prevents overspending because you won’t be shopping under any time pressures. When there’s only a few days to get a gift for everyone in your life, it’s easy to panic and buy things you normally wouldn’t.

Late, desperate shoppers often have to resort to ordering things online when the stores no longer carry the item you need. And in order to get the item in time, you’ll have to pay pricey shipping costs to ensure the gift gets to you before the holiday.

Have you gotten any of your holiday shopping done yet? Share with us in the comments below.

This Incredible Wolf Saves a Veteran Suffering With PTSD

After returning home from war, many soldiers suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from the horrific things they’ve witnessed and done. Aside from traditional treatments and medications, animal therapies have long been used to heal soldiers’ emotional scars.

Dogs and horses have always been the go-to for animal therapies, yet the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center in Frazier Park, CA, is healing veterans with the help of rescued wolves, who are extraordinarily calming and loyal despite being a wild species.

“There’s something about being part of nature. There’s something about being around these animals,” cofounder and veteran Matthew Simmons said. “To even the most wounded veteran, they feel different. It keeps them a part of something greater than themselves.”

Nothing seemed to worked for veteran Jim Minick until he entered the program.“They kind of teach you how to be calm and confident,” said Minick. “It’s got some deeper meaning when they accept you.”

Most people contemplate what tattoo they’ll get for months, and sometimes even years. These brave souls, on the other hand, blindly let a tattoo artist give them tattoos without knowing what design they’d be receiving.

In order to see how well his clients trusted his work and his skill, Scott Campbell decided to offer free tattoos to a few people with the condition that he could choose the design. The well-known Williamsburg based tattoo artist called this project ‘Whole Glory,’ and didn’t let the people see his work until it was fully complete.

Take a look below at some of Campbell’s work, and the brave people who put their trust in him.

Motivation Monday: 4 Rules to Always Choose Happiness

$
0
0

Despite what you probably believe, happiness is always a choice. Happy people aren’t lucky, they actively fight for their happiness every single day instead of crumbling in the face of setbacks and the tragedies.

Take a look at the top four rules you need to follow to always choose happiness.

4. Accept that happiness requires effort.

Nothing in this world that’s worth having comes easy, and happiness is no different. It’s easy to get stuck in the trap of being envious of everyone else’s seemingly ‘perfect’ lives, but you never see how much work went into being happy, and all the ways that person fought for themselves and their happiness.

Once you accept that happiness requires constant effort, minor setbacks will no longer feel like the end of the world. Instead, you’ll be more prepared to handle a setback because you’re constantly fighting for yourself and are in more control of how you handle situations.

3. Figure out what you believe in-and stick to it.

We all have expectations for ourself, and how our lives will play out, but if your actions don’t reflect your beliefs and goals, you’ll constantly feel inadequate. Once you figure out what’s truly important, start acting accordingly, and you’ll be amazed at how fast you feel proud of yourself for working towards the things that make you happy.

2. Don’t make it harder for yourself than it already is.

When something you perceive to be negative happens, you have two choices. You can choose to let your attitude and your perceptions about something make you miserable. Or, you can choose to look for a silver lining and use the opportunity to grow as a person.

Think back to the last time you thought your world was falling apart. Was it actually as bad as you convinced yourself it was? Was there anything that you could have done or appreciated that would have make the experience easier? We often fail to realize that our warped perceptions and attitudes have a much bigger impact on our happiness than the actual circumstance itself.

1. Embrace every moment in the moment.

If there’s one guarantee in life, it’s that things will happen in your life that you can’t control, and that will make you feel miserable. You may never be able to control what happens to you, but you can control how you react in the wake of those experiences.

Choosing to be happy requires you to stop dwelling on the past, and worrying about the future. Instead, take it one day at a time, embrace the good and the bad. When things are going well, don’t let something negative taint the happiness, and when times are bad, remember there is always something to be happy about.

Will you follow these rules to choose to be happy? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

When Ryan Read, a registered nurse, was watching an episode of HGTV’s Flip or Flop, she noticed a concerning lump on Tarek El Moussa’s neck.

Ryan decided to send an email to the show’s producers so she wouldn’t appear like a crazy fan. In the email Ryan wrote: “This is not a joke. I’m a registered nurse. I’ve been watching Flip or Flop. I noticed that the host Tarek has a large nodule on his thyroid, and he needs to have it checked out.”

Tarek had noticed the lump in his neck before, but his doctors assured him that nothing was wrong. When his Flip or Flop producer forwarded him Ryan’s email, he decided to get a second opinion.

This time, doctors took a biopsy of the lump, and discovered it was cancerous and that it has already spread to his lymph nodes.

“When I woke up, my wife was crying and the first thing I asked was, ‘It’s cancer, isn’t it?’,” Tarek said. “And she said, ‘Yeah.’”

Thankfully the cancer hadn’t spread past his neck, and the 34-year-old HGTV star is now in remission after undergoing radioactive iodine therapy.

‘Sea Organ’ Turns Waves and Wind into Enchanting Music

At first glance, this marble coast looks little more than simple, man-made steps. However, these steps called the ‘Sea Organ,’ which were created by Nikola Bašić, are anything but simple.

After the coast of Zadar in Croatia was destroyed by heavy bombing during WWII, the natural landscape fell into neglect until Bašić started work to bring life back to the coastline.

Waves and wind enter the man-made spaces at different strengths, and get pushed through a series of 35 polyethylene tubes that connects to a whistle. Each whistle is tunes to play seven chords of five different tones.

The musical jetty was completed in 2005, and is more than 230 feet long.

Experts from a variety of fields, like engineers, craftsmen, and a professor of music who tuned the pipes, came together to create this magical sea organ.

5 Reasons Friendsgiving is Better Than the Real Thing

You can’t pick your family, but you can choose your friends, which is why Friendsgiving is so much fun. Of course you love even the craziest of relatives, but there’s nothing better than spending the day eating and drinking with your chosen family.

Here are the five reasons why celebrating Thanksgiving with friends is just as good, if not better, than the real thing.

5. You can celebrate Friendsgiving whenever you want.

Unlike the official holiday, Friendsgiving can be celebrated any day you and your friends choose. Depending on where everyone works and if they have plans for Thanksgiving with family, it might be difficult for everyone to celebrate on the official day- and that’s ok.

Since Friendsgiving is about the company, not the details, it doesn’t matter if it’s a few days before or after the real day.

4. Friendsgiving gives you another excuse to eat, drink, and celebrate friendship.

Those who do celebrate Thanksgiving with family know that the holidays can be a stressful time that puts even more strain on any existing family dramas. If you spend half your real Thanksgiving biting your tongue, or making sure your clashing relatives are getting along, a Friendsgiving allows you to actually enjoy the holiday and everything it represents.

Not to mention, you can also pig out on your favorite dishes without having to worry that your snarky aunt will make comments on your eating habits.

3. It’s cheaper than the real thing.

As many as 47 million Americans have to travel to get home for Thanksgiving, and along the way, the cost of airfare, gas, and possible hotel bills can quickly add up to a very expensive trip. For those who can’t afford such a pricey trip, Friendsgiving lets them celebrate without emptying their bank accounts.

2. Friendsgiving is stress-free.

Aside from avoiding traveling during one of the busiest times of the year, Friendsgiving is stress and pressure-free because none of the guests will care if the Turkey’s a little dry, or even if the silverware is set properly.

Friendsgivings are typically done pot-luck style, which also keeps the host from have a mental-breakdown trying to prepare an elaborate four course meal. Instead, everyone brings their specialty dish, or assigned item without the stress.

1. Friendsgiving lets the people who can’t celebrate with family get into the holiday spirit.

Just because you can’t celebrate the holiday with your blood doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the holiday altogether. If you can’t afford to make it back home to celebrate with family, or you have complicated family issues, Friendsgiving is a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.

Your friends already know and accept everything about you and love you for who you are, so there’s no reason to feel alone or left out this Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays of the year simply because of all the delicious and over-the-top dishes that land on your plate. However, the fun only starts with the main course. As any sweet-tooth knows, that the best part of the night is dessert.

If you’re looking to impress your family this year with your confectionery talents, but can’t decide between baking a cake or a pie, it turns out you don’t have to pick.

Thanks to the ‘piecaken,’ you get the best of both worlds, as an entire pie sits hidden inside of a normal looking cake.

Pies and cakes by themselves can get a little boring, but the flavor possibilities of a piecaken are seriously endless.

If cakes are a little too overwhelming for you, the piecaken can also be made into cupcakes.

The dessert looks incredibly complex, but all you need is a few baking pans, some cake batter, and a few pies, which can be either homemade or store-bought. Simply pour some of the batter in the cake pan, throw in a pie, and cover with the rest of the batter.

After years on the force, there’s typically very little that can surprise a cop. When officers arrived to a hotel room, they weren’t surprised when they found an unconscious man surrounded with heroine and other drug paraphernalia. What was a shock, however, was the surprising thing Detective Mike Lynes had found in the bathroom.

When Lynes walked into the hotel’s bathroom, he found a tiny puppy left all alone. The puppy, named Daisy, was starving, weak, and exhausted. Lynes brought Daisy to animal control to wait to see if she’d be claimed, but no one came for her.

Daisy felt right at home among all the people who rescued her, and gave her the affection she deserved.

6 Ways to Beat Holiday Holiday Weight Gain

$
0
0

The recommended daily intake of calories for the average adults is around 2,000 calories a day, but that number is more than doubled during big holiday meals like Thanksgiving.

The average American eats 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving, with about 3,000 of those calories consumed just at dinner. While the holidays are a time of celebration and eating delicious food, you don’t have to give up your health to celebrate.

Take a look at these top six tips for staying healthy and avoiding binge eating during the holidays without having to give up on all the fun.

6. Beware of fake healthy dishes

Just because it has a vegetable in it, doesn’t mean it’s great for you. These are the dishes like green bean casserole and mashed potatoes, which seem healthy but can be extremely high in sugar, fat, and sodium. Also, paying attention to how things have been prepared (think baked vs. deep fried) will help indicate if a dish is actually all that healthy.

You can still enjoy these foods in moderation, but just be sure not to go overboard with these tasty dishes.

5. Never skip breakfast

It might seem like a good idea to skip breakfast to save your appetite for the huge feast, but you should always eat breakfast- especially the day of a huge holiday dinner like Thanksgiving. If you skip the most important meal of the day, you’re more likely to over-indulge in appetizers, and binge during dinner and dessert.

4. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated with water is a huge part of regulating your appetite. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and right before you eat dinner. The water will fill your stomach, which will have you feeling full before you can manage a second helping of stuffing.

3. Sign up for a turkey trot

Just because it’s a holiday, doesn’t mean you should ditch your workout routine. Try to get in a quick workout in the morning, or sign up to run a turkey trot with family. Not only will that morning workout jumpstart your metabolism, but you’ll also be more likely to make healthier choices later on at the dinner table.

2. Use smaller plates

Those big plates might look pretty on the table, but research has shown that you’re more likely to overeat using bigger plates even when you’re no longer hungry. Using smaller 10-inch plates compared to the standard 12-inch helps you naturally eat about 22 percent fewer calories without feeling like you’re restricting yourself.

1. Slow down

It might be tempting to inhale your favorite holiday meals, but the rate in which you eat your food has a huge impact on calorie consumption. Research shows that chewing slower, is a really useful way to eat less food, so remember to slow down and savor each dish.

Slowing down also applies to how soon you fill up your plate again. It takes your stomach about 20 minutes to register when it is full, so remember to wait at least 20 minutes before going in for seconds.

If you struggle to remember portion sizes, take a look at this helpful chart, which shows you what 200 calories looks like of each dish:

Many couples hire professional photographers and videographers to capture their monumental day. While they might be talented, unfortunately they’re often complete strangers.

Instead of hiring a professional, this couple chose an unconventional member of the family to keep their small ceremony intimate.

When Addie and Josh decided to tie the knot on top of a snowy Roan Mountain in Tennessee, they couldn’t think of anyone better to film the magical day then their dog Ryder.

Because everyone knew the videographer so well, no one was shy or uncomfortable in front of the camera.
