Sergeant Matthew Whalen spent his adult life serving others as a father and as a soldier in the U.S. Army. And now, in his final moment, Whalen has found a way to serve two more people.

The 35-year-old served in Afghanistan and Iraq for a total of five years, yet passed away this December of a brain hemorrhage. His family finally made the impossible decision to withdraw his life support, and donate two of his organs to two veterans in need.

“In his final act on this Earth, it’s only fitting that he gave his life and in return saved two others,” Whalen’s friend and fellow soldier Sean Hatton Wrote to Facebook. “And it’s almost as if it were meant to be that the two donor recipients happened to be veterans.”

After Whalen’s wife Hannah, and their small children were left behind, the family set up a Go Fund Me page to help with the financial burden. So far, the donations have exceeded their $50,000 goal by over $30,000.

Any little kid would love for their room to be ripped out of the pages of a Disney fairy tale, so when this loving dad’s little girl wanted a place where she could sit and read books, as well as climb up top to a cozy sitting area, he happily went to work.

The project lasted over 18 months, and required a total of 350 hours and $4,250 to complete, but this dad managed to completely transform his daughter’s boring room into a room full of magic.

This dad, who goes by ‘Radamshome‘ on Reddit, is an artist in the video game industry, and put his creative skills to good work when creating the concept for the plain room out of a drawing and scale model.

Yet even with his artistic background, Radamshome had no idea how intense the project would be. “I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project. I used Disney set-design as my inspiration. Even though it was difficult, I learned a huge amount along the way,” he said.

In order to make sure the tree was strong enough for his daughter, he took a welding course, covered the tree in a wire mesh, and then covered the tree in cement.

While the tree only needs to hold the weight of a few kids, Radamshome made sure the tree could support three grown adults at once.

At the end of the 18-month project, this lucky little girl had a bedroom fit for a fairy with her own personal reading tree with branches, leaves, glimmering lights, and cute woodland creatures.

When Her Son Was Being Bullied At School, This Mom Shocked Them With The Truth

Hearing that your child is getting harassed and teased at school is a nightmare for aNY mother, but for one Connecticut mom, hearing her son was being bullied was unbearable. Mary Ann Parisi adopted her son Michael as a baby who had been born severely premature, and has since faced countless hardships.

“My son is a love muffin. No anger. He doesn’t want anyone to get in trouble, he’s willing to take it,” Mary Ann told ABC News. “It’s a hard line to walk because your initial reaction is to lash out because you want to protect your son, but that’s not the way to go about it.”

Instead, she decided to write a Facebook post explaining some of the issues Michael has faced to remind people to teach their children be kind to one another since you never know what’s really going on with someone.

In her inspiring post, Mary Ann wrote:

“Michael was born at 26 weeks. Just over 3 months premature. I am not his bio mom. But in every other way, I am his mother. He spent the first 3 months of his life fighting to survive. Shunts, blood transfusions, etc. His mother left him 3 months later. He has survived failure to thrive and numerous other health issues to become the strong, healthy boy he is.”

“He didn’t learn to talk till he was 3 years old. Walking was very delayed. He didn’t have teeth till after his first birthday. He was so very behind. But he loved. Oh how he loved. To this day, his smile is the best thing ever. There is not one person he doesn’t like/love, including those who tormented him today.”

“He forgives and honestly, he forgets too. There is not one judgemental bone in his body. I strive to be more like him daily but fall very short. You called him brace face today, before you were picking on him because of his eating habits. Did you know he physically can not control the food staying in his mouth. Or how very bad his hand/eye coordination is. Those braces are just one of the many steps he will endure, to help align his lower jaw that never fully developed. So he doesn’t spill his food or chew weirdly anymore. So you won’t pick on him.”

“Kicking his chair, calling him stupid, ugly, brace face, bucky beaver. Telling him to sit down and shut up is not the way. You don’t have to like him, but you do have to respect him. He’s a fighter, that’s a very small portion of his story. Share, teach, grow. Most importantly respect those around, you never know what they have been through.”

Can you believe what this mother had to do to quiet her son’s bullies? Let us know what you think of her post in the comments below, and please SHARE this with friends on Facebook.

Since Eva Armstrong was seven years old, she has always wanted to work with dogs, but that dream got sidetracked by her ambitions to make a lot of money working on Wall Street.

Eventually, however, all the money in the world lost its appeal and she knew she wasn’t doing what she was meant to. “I’ve always been a little bit of a work-a-holic. I was like ‘I’m going to go work on Wall Street. I’m going to make a lot of money.’ And then I was like ‘Oh my god, this is just miserable. I don’t want to do this.’ I don’t care about all the money in the world.”

Instead, Eva started Eva’s Play Pups, a countryside dog camp in 2002 for rescue dogs and dogs in kill shelters to stay until getting adopted, as well as give pet owners a loving place to leave their dogs while away on trips.

Instead of sitting all day in a cage without any attention, Eva showers every dog with affection and keeps them active all day long. “We hike, we swim, we kayak. they’re so relaxed here. You know, I get to see them at their best,” Eva explained.

For Eva, the worst part of the job is having to leave behind a dog. “We all have faces we still remember at this point that we left behind, and that’s the awful part of what we do. But, if we don’t do that, then we can’t save anyone so you just have to power through,” Eva explained tearfully.

Despite the pain that it’s caused her, Eva knows she is making a difference for lots of dogs in need and would never want to do anything else with her life. “Being with dogs and doing what I do is definitely my calling I feel like I get dogs, and I feel like dogs know that I get them,” she said.

Anyone who has ever run any kind of race, especially a half marathon, knows how much preparation and practice goes into getting ready for race day. Yet, for this hound dog named Ludivine, a half marathon’s 13.1-mile course was a cake walk.

When Ludivine never returned from being let out for the bathroom on the morning of the race, owner April Hamlin didn’t think twice since her social dog loves to wander around and greet people in their extremely small town of Elkmont, Alabama. But when Ludivine got sight of a group of runners warming up near the start line, she knew she had to get in on the fun.

Despite her frequent distractions, which made her leave the course to explore nearby streams and yards, Ludivine always came back to the course and managed to catch up and keep pace with the top runners. “Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me, and she would race past me up to the two leaders,” said Jim Clemens who placed fourth.

When Ludivine crossed the finish line in seventh place, the volunteers were amazed that she had finished at 1:32:56 and decided to drape one of the race medals around her droopy ears before taking pictures and sending them to Hamlin.

Yet, when Hamlin found out what her dog had been up to, she couldn’t believe it. “She’s laid back and friendly, so I can’t believe she ran the whole half marathon because she’s actually really lazy,”said Hamlin told Runner’s World

With hundreds of streets to plow and seemingly endless snow to clear, it can take forever for the plow to actually get to your street and clear all the snow. Yet the lucky members of this neighborhood have their own personal bulldozer, which is operated by a 3-year-old boy named Sam, for clearing up the roads right away.

As part of his birthday gift, Sam had a bulldozer themed party, and when Christmas finally came around later that month, he asked his parents for a play truck bulldozer.

Since opening his dream gift on Christmas morning, Sam hasn’t left the toy alone. When the snowy weather arrived, the 3-year-old knew he had all the right equipment to plow the driveway.

And when neighbors noticed Sam plowing the family’s driveway, they started asking for his help as well. “He’s convinced he’s actually getting rid of the snow,” mom Carrie Curry told TODAY. “It’s OK though because the neighbors can’t get enough of watching him in action.”

When the Public Works Department got wind of the little boy’s good deeds, they decided to gift him his own street sign with his name on it. “We were happy to see this helpful young man today! We wanted to say a special thanks for all of his hard work keeping the Kingston city streets safe! Thanks again, Sam Curry,” the department wrote on their Facebook.

Yet, when this FDNY ambulance and police cruiser were on duty during Winter Storm Jonas, they got stuck in a deep snow bank in Brooklyn and needed some rescuing themselves.

Luckily, some kindhearted strangers happened to be nearby and helped shovel the truck out of the snow, so it could get back to work.

A trip to a crowded, busy store can get the best of anyone, but when this mom went to her local Apple store with her son James, she got a pleasant surprise by an incredibly patient and understanding employee.

When LynMarie Rink arrived at the Apple store with her son James, who has been born with Down Syndrome and was also diagnosed with Autism, she hoped to simply replace their broken iPad, which had become a tool to help James communicate and a learning device.

Yet as she looked at the selection, something caught her son’s eye.

“He took off running full speed out the door. The problem was he wasn’t at the door, but at the clear glass wall. He slammed into the wall full force which knocked him over,” Rink wrote in her post to Facebook. “The entire store gasped as they heard the sound of James’ head hitting the glass and then the floor.”

While everyone in the store stared at James, one employee came over and sat with them to see how he could help.

“Your awesome employee sat with James on the floor of the store and set up the new iPad. There are no words to accurately describe how grateful I am that he took the time to ‘meet us right where we were.’ He didn’t have to sit down on the floor with us. He could have easily waited for us to stand. Could have easily waited for us to come back another day. But he hung out with us in the midst of our pain.”

After Facebook friends helped Rink find the amazing employee named Andrew who changed her and her son’s day, he responded by letting her know how much they had affected his day. “Hey Lynn, I want to say thank you so much for those kind words! I began working at Apple in hopes of having fulfilling moments like this,” Andrew wrote. “Post Apple my hopes are to work within the realm of youth counseling. Thanks again for making my day!”

While this furry creature bears a striking resemblance to the scavengers we’re all too familiar with, the unusual creature is not a raccoon, but actually a tanuki, or raccoon dog, which is part of the same family of mammals as dogs, wolfs, coyotes, and foxes.

Despite being a naturally wild animals in East Asia, Twitter user chibi_tori found the small creature, which he later nicknamed ‘Tanu’, alone and in need of care.

Tanu was abandoned and when Chibi_Tori found him last June, he took the adorable creature in, and has been caring for him ever since.

When these firefighters were responding to a small fire in a garage, they quickly put the fire out before noticing a small puppy in a pen next to the garage door, and two other small puppies trying to find a way to escape.

The first responders immediately noticed that the three puppies were struggling to breathe after inhaling so much smoke, and set up special oxygen masks.

For Lance Cpl. David Pond, his military k-9 partner named Pablo was more than just a fluffy companion, he was the rock that kept them both alive during their 7-month tour in Afghanistan where Pablo’s keen nose sniffed out hidden bombs.

Pond and his Belgian malinois bonded instantly, and because of the trust between each other, they managed to survive countless hours sniffing for the roadside bombs that could kill an entire platoon, and more than 30 firefights.

“He was my rock, my foundation,” Pond, 27, said. “He saved my life more than once.”

Yet, at the end of their tour, Pond was sent back to Colorado and Pablo was sent to work stateside as part of the President’s secret service team. After fighting his way back from war, Pond was now facing a new fight: healing from a traumatic brain injury and his post-traumatic stress disorder.

School teachers and principals dedicate their lives to giving students a safe, nurturing environment to learn and grow, yet this selfless principal did something unthinkable to save two students who were about to be hit by a school bus.

While helping students get to their buses after school had ended, one bus jumped the curb, yet just before hitting some children, Principal Susan Jordan sacrificed her own life by pushing kids out from in front of the bus. “Up to the minute she was alive, she was helping the kids,” said Rita Reith from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Jordan’s being hailed a hero for her selfless actions, which saved the lives of two 10-year-old students, but she was a beloved member of the school well before the tragic accident.

In fact, she was so adored that people actually moved their families into the district because of her reputation as principal for over two decades. “It was for all the good things we had heard about Principal Jordan and everything that was going on (there),” said Adam Baker.

Since her death, a tribute video has resurfaced from her entire school. “She is everything I want to be when I grow up,” says one adult woman. “She is kind. She’s caring. She’s compassionate. She’s loving. She’s sincere, and she’s a professional. She makes all of us want to be even better.”

Even students loved their principal so much that they wrote a poem: “J — is for joyful to be around. O — is for organized in all you do. R — is for radiant, because you, Mrs. Jordan, are radiant. D — is for demanding because you demand we do our best every day. A — is for awesome because you’re an awesome principal. N — is for nice because you’re always nice to work with.”

As part of a volunteer program, this lucky woman gets to spend all of her time watching and interacting with the panda cubs, cleaning them, and showering the babies with loving hugs and cuddles.

At first, one needy baby panda monopolizes all of the volunteer’s attention and cuddles, as all the other brothers and sisters crawl around on the floor next to them.

Shocking Report Reveals Why You Should Rethink Donating To Wounded Warrior

Soldiers who risk their lives every day and make unimaginable sacrifices in the name of protecting our country deserve to be supported and honored as they return home. However, many are forced to rely on charitable organizations when they can’t get the support they deserve.

Unfortunately, one of the most prominent charities set up for helping soldiers returning home from war, The Wounded Warriors Project, has recently been exposed by a CBS News investigation for wasting donation money from hard-working Americans that should be going to helping soldiers, and is instead using that money for themselves.

According to CharityNavigator.org, other less publicized charities like the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust (DAV) and the Fisher House charity spends over 90 percent of its budget on veterans. The Wounded Warrior Project, on the other hand, only 60 percent of donations actually go to soldiers.

Upon returning home from Iraq in 2006 with a traumatic brain injury and PTSD, Army Staff Sergeant Erick Millette was inspired by the charity’s work, and began working as a public speaker for them. But two years later, Millette quit after being shocked by the waste.

“Their mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors, but what the public doesn’t see is how they spend their money,” he said. “You’re using our injuries, our darkest days, our hardships, to make money. So you can have these big parties.”

“It was extremely extravagant. Dinners and alcohol, and just total access” one former employee explained. Not only is the misuse of funds wrong, but the former employee went on to explain “it’s what the military calls fraud waste and abuse.”

CBS News reported that the charity’s tax forms go on to document even more misuse of funds. In 2010 the charity spent a total of $1.7 million for conferences and meetings, and in 2014, that spending on conferences and meetings skyrocketed to $26 million, which is about the same amount that they spend on their top recovery program.

“Donors don’t want you to have a $2,500 bar tab. Donors don’t want you to fly every staff member once a year to some five-star resort and whoop it up and call it team building,” Millette said.

“I’m sorry, but I’ll be damned if you’re gonna take hard-working Americans’ money and drink it and waste it,” Millette said.

Watch the entire video below to find out more about the accusations made against The Wounded Warrior Project.

While The Wounded Warrior Project does still raise money for veterans in need, keep in mind that nearly $120 million of the $300 million raised is being wasted while there are still so many vets who need help. Next time you want to donate, maybe consider donating to another group.

Their son had complained that he was afraid to go to bed because of the man that was talking to him on the phone, but Sarah and Jay couldn’t understand what he meant, and figured he was just having a nightmare.

While Dennis Browning, a South African tourist, was visiting the Ingwelala Nature Reserve in South Africa, he managed to capture an incredible show of a mother elephant’s bravery and selflessness as she throws herself in front on a pack of African wild dogs to protect her defenseless baby.

At first, the situation seemed doomed, as the mother elephant, her baby, and one other elephant were surrounded and outnumbered by the pack of 14 vicious dogs, but the mother refused to go down quietly. By making loud trumpeting calls, the distressed mothers managed to intimidate the pack, while also calling for some help.

While the elephants clearly are much larger than the wild dogs, the pack outnumbers the mother, which leaves the baby elephant vulnerable to an attack.

Luckily, mom’s loud roars manage to hold off the hungry dogs long enough for a big group of elephants to show up and provide some much-needed backup.
