Parents will do anything to make their children feel better, so when one Oregon dad noticed his son was embarrassed by an auto-immune disease that left him bald, he didn’t hesitate to give himself a matching haircut.

Many babies are born with little to no hair on their head, which is why dad Koki Gomez didn’t think anything was abnormal with his baby son. However, as his little boy grew he started noticing hair loss and bald patches. When he went to the doctor two years ago, he finally found out that his little boy had Alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disease that causes baldness and hair loss.

His little boy quickly started to lose most of his hair, and was left almost completely bald. He would often wear hats out to cover up his head, but when Gomez noticed how self-conscious it was making his son, he decided to match his hair and shave everything off.

“He almost lost all his hair. Thank God that he seems to be getting most of his hair back. When he had lost most of it, I was willing to match his hair style. Now that he’s got most of it back, nothing’s going to be any different. I’ll match his too,” Gomez wrote in a post on Facebook after he began shaving matching bald spots in his own hair to match his son.

The Top 7 Grocery Shopping Hacks All Parents Wish They Knew

Between trying to plan out an entire week’s meals for your family, looking after wandering kids, AND calming down crying toddlers, shopping can be a nightmare for parents especially when the little kids outnumber the adults.

While grocery shopping with little ones can seem like mission impossible, these weekly excursions don’t have to be as traumatizing as you think. With a little preparation, these trips to the store can actually be an enjoyable outing with your kids.

Take a look at the top 7 grocery shopping tips you need to know before your next shopping trip:

7. Parking: While everyone wants to find front row parking, the best parking spots for moms are actually right next to the shopping cart return area since you can quickly take your child from their car seat to the shopping cart seat. And when leaving the store, you don’t have to leave your kids in the car for long while you drop the cart off.

6. Making Space: If you’re cooking for a family, you know how quickly those shopping carts fill up and how precious space for food is, so instead of wasting all that precious space in the cart with diaper bags and handbags, use a plastic baggie from the produce section to tie them up onto the handlebar.

5. Germs: Kids love putting their mouths on anything in sight, including the handlebars of the shopping cart, which are covered in germs that can easily make them sick. Instead of fighting with them the entire time to keep away from the handles, bring a sliced open pool noodle which protects them from the germs and also serves as a bumper so they don’t hurt themselves.

4. Avoid The Middle: No matter what grocery store you shop in, almost all of the foods you really need like the meats, produce, and dairy will be along the perimeter of the store. Not only will it save you time by not walking up every single aisle, but avoiding the candy and sweets aisle will save you from some embarrassing meltdowns.

3. Ask For Help: Most people don’t realize, but butchers behind the meat and deli counters can cut items into individual portions for you and even wrap them up for freezing if you ask, which will save you some precious prep time.

2. Snacks: Snacks are a great way to keep kids occupied during a grocery trip, but a baggie of snacks is basically guaranteed to make a spill. Instead, make a Cheerio necklace with dental floss to keep messes at a minimum.

1. Bringing It All Inside: Instead of cutting off the circulation in your arms while attempting to bring all the groceries inside in one go, keep a laundry basket in the trunk so you can easily carry everything in at once.

Watch the entire video below to see the rest of these genius grocery shopping tips as well as a few bonus unpacking hacks that are sure to save you tie and energy.

As a parent, you do so much to teach your children how to be good people, yet most of the time it feels like all your hard work goes unnoticed and all the important lessons you try to teach go in one ear and out the other.

All parents have felt like this at one point or another, and TV star Joanna Gaines, who co-stars on the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper with her husband Chip, is sharing some wise parenting advice after a heartwarming interaction with her daughter reminded her that kids absorb everything we do even if they don’t look like their watching or listening.

On her Facebook page, Gaines shared a photo she quickly snapped of her daughter Emmy after she walked past her bedroom and noticed her staring out the window at an Adonis blue butterfly bush. “I planted by the girl’s window almost five years ago when we were renovating the farmhouse,” she explained. “I wanted butterflies by the girl’s windows that they could see and enjoy.”

“I never told them about the bush and honestly I forgot about it over the years,” Gaines wrote. “This morning I found my little Emmie sitting by her window looking excitedly at the bush and saying ‘Here she is! My little hummingbird comes every morning mom!’ First, I didn’t know she looked out for her bird every morning. Second, I forgot all about the bush and never told her if she looked out the window she would see the prettiest butterflies and hummingbirds gathered around it.”

“It’s hard not to think this is a lot like parenting… You sow seeds early on and work hard to be intentional and then over time you move on to new lessons and challenges. Then one day you look up and the seeds you planted in your little children’s hearts are now in full bloom,” Gaines wrote in the post that has struck a chord with parents and has been shared over 76,000 times.

“Be encouraged today to keep pressing in and tending to their hearts. It will be worth it.”

Breastfeeding Mom Refuses To Wean Her 5-Year-Old Son

Every good parent just wants the best for their child, but almost every parent has a different idea of how to best raise their children- especially when it comes to breastfeeding.

Most parents are advised to exclusively breastfeed until their baby is a year old if they can, yet many moms struggle to even make it to a year, nevermind 5 years of breastfeeding. However, one mom who calls her parenting style ‘off-grid parenting’ has no plans to stop despite the criticism she’s received from breastfeeding her 5-year-old son, which is twice the average age that children in the United States get weaned.

“We parent according to what we feel in our hearts. We don’t want our children to be institutionalised. Everything is natural. We never wake them up at a set time, we want them to be in tune with their bodies.” mom Adele Allen said about her controversial parenting methods to her 5-year-old son Ulysses and 1-year-old daughter Ostara.

“Ulyssess does still nurse from time to time. Since the baby came along it has decreased rapidly and we had to come to a mutual understanding that it needed to graduate down a bit, but then I wasn’t willing to say ‘no you need to stop now,'” Adele said of her controversial choice to breastfeed her son. “I think it’s up to him to decide when he wants to move on from it. It’s something that’s just as natural as a hug is, it’s a connection.”

Aside from full term breastfeeding, Adele also feels strongly that Ulysses or Ostera are not treated by doctors and are never enrolled in mainstream schools. So far, Ulysses has been home schooled but can’t read or write, and when the children get sick, she prefers to use natural remedies, which includes squirting breast milk in their eye to cure eye infections.

Marine Wife Organizes Priceless Surprise For Returning Husband

One of the hardest things for a deployed soldier aside from the constant physical threats is not being able to see their family and loved ones, which is why family is the first thing they want to see once they step foot on U.S. soil.

As soon as Gunnery Sergeant Taylor was deployed, his wife started counting the days until he would return home and began planning how she could surprise him since he thought he wouldn’t see her right away because he was being stationed in California and she and their kids lived in Maryland. “My husband has been in Afghanistan for the last year. He was one of the last group of Marines to come back from the war,” mom explained.

After some planning, mom arranged to fly out to California to surprise her husband who she had tricked into thinking she was in Maryland. “The media is full of military men and women surprising their families upon their return from deployment, but it is very rare to see a military member get surprised by their loved ones,” she said of her plan.

“Because he is stationed in California and our kids and I live in Maryland, he didn’t think that anyone would be there when he returned. But I showed him!”

As Taylor and his unit marched in, mom stood eagerly on the side and once they finished marching in, practically everyone but her husband raced off to greet their families. Mom managed to sneak up right behind him as he was greeting other Marines, but once he realized who was standing beside him, he broke down in tears.

Finding a name that both you and your partner both like is hard enough, but now parents have the added stress of worrying about how unique and different their baby’s name is.

In the quest for choosing a special name for her baby girl, one Australian mom, known only by her last name Mavis, chose a name for her daughter that is so unique that strangers are now accusing Mavis of child abuse since she’s setting up her daughter for a childhood of bullying

While pregnant, Mavis kept coming back to the name Kaitlyn for her unborn daughter, but couldn’t get passed the fact that is was pretty normal and common name for girls. “I’ve always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it was,” the mother said.

So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the ‘ait’ with the Roman numeral symbol for eight! Now our daughter is truly unique,” Mavis wrote in a paragraph in a magazine.

Instead of just picking a different name, Mavis decided to name her daughter ‘KVIIIlyn’, which is pronounced ‘Kaitlyn’ but replaces the ‘ait’ with the roman number symbol for 8.

After one Reddit user spotted the entry in a magazine, he uploaded a snapshot of the magazine page and captioned his post, “Surely a form of child abuse?”

Belfast Police Take In Loving Family Dog Because Of How He Looks

Pit bulls often get unfairly judged as vicious and dangerous animals who are a ticking time bomb waiting to harm or even kill someone, but in reality, their breed has nothing to do with their temperament since many are sweet and gentle family members.

Even though it’s been proven that not all pit bulls are hostile threats, many still see them as threats to the community, and in some places, it’s even illegal to own pit bulls. Northern Ireland is one of those places where it is illegal to own a dog who even looks like a pit bull, like Leonard Collins’ and Joanna Meadows’ dog Hank.

After someone reported Hank, who is actually a cross between a Staffordshire bull terrier and a Labrador, for ‘looking like a pit bull’ eight cops and four animal control officers broke into the family’s home while they were out to take the ‘dangerous’ dog who calmly went with the strangers.

When the family got home, Hank was missing, and all that was left was a note on the front door that explained that the 2-year-old puppy, who was raised by the family since he was born, had been taken by police under the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983. Despite clearly not being a threat, he is now being held by the council, who refuses to let him see his family, and may even kill him because of how he looks.

“And thanks to the dog warden herself who explained that although he isn’t dangerous he still has to die and that no, I cannot see him before they kill him,” Meadows wrote in a post to Facebook after contacting the council. “The only recourse I have is to take the council to court to fight the legally mandated destruction order.”

Mom Keeps Newborn Attached To Placenta 6 Days After Birth

While the umbilical cord and placenta used to be tossed away without a second thought, more and more moms have been recognizing their potential uses after birth.

Some moms choose to eat the placenta after birth to ward off postpartum depression, renew energy levels and recover faster from birth, and others choose to harvest tissue and blood from the umbilical cord for potentially life-saving stem cells. However, many parents couldn’t believe what one mom decided to do with her baby’s placenta and umbilical cord after birth.

Rather than cut the cord, which separated the baby from their placenta, mom Adele Allen, from Brighton, UK, decided to keep her baby attached to the placenta and umbilical cord until it fell off on its own.

When it came time to deliver her little girl, Allen chose to give birth outside of a hospital with only her partner Matt there to assist during the birth and the 12-hour after birth. “This extended period of literally remaining connected ensured I could bond successfully with both my babies without any interference or unnecessary weighing, bathing or medical tests,” she said. “They were allowed to experience the golden bonding hour of skin-to-skin contact without interruption.”

Doctors warn that these ‘lotus births’ carries a risk of infection, but during the six days that placenta was attached to Allen’s baby, she explains they kept it wrapped up in a cooler to keep it clean.

“To keep the placenta smelling pleasant, we sprinkled it with a coating of rock salt and rose petals before wrapping in muslin cloths which were changed every few days. For easy transport, the placenta was then placed into a hand-held cool bag which kept everything clean and aerated.”

“When I watch videos of babies being born and having the cord clamped and cut, I feel sorrow that our medical system feels such an urgency to inflict unnecessary trauma to the newborn who often display an ear-piercing scream at the point of cutting the cord,” Allen said. “My babies were very peaceful after birth.”

Parents Are Horrified After They Find Needles In Playground

Playgrounds are supposed to be a safe place for children and a life-saver for parents who desperately want their kids to burn off some of their endless energy, which is why parents are horrified at what they found at their local playground.

As usual, parents dropped their kids off at the playground at Unity Place, Buckshaw Village, a quiet residential area in England. Yet when parents brought their kids to play recently, they spotted a few bright orange caps on the ground, and were horrified when they found loose syringes scattered around the playground.

“I straight away walked over to inspect the area myself and to warn anybody using the play equipment and I was joined by PC Mike Payne who promptly checked the area and cleared away the needles, Councillor Aidy Riggott and fellow parent said.

“Residents were shocked and as a dad to two young children, this is an incredibly worrying incident. The ‘what if’ thoughts stick with you for quite a while.”

Police think the needles were used for insulin for diabetics, however, drug abusers have been known to use insulin syringes to inject drugs like heroin, and any used needle, no matter what it was used for, poses a risk of carrying blood-borne diseases.

“If any person discovers needles contact police or the council and do not touch,” a police spokesman said.

Mom Breastfeeds Baby With Cancer During Chemotherapy

There is nothing worse for a mother than to sit and watch a child battle an unforgiving disease like cancer and have no way of helping.

Ashleigh Mack, a mom of three from Iowa City, Iowa, took her 4-month-old son Lincoln to the emergency when she noticed he seemed unwell and lethargic, but figured he was sick with a virus. Three days later, however, doctors told her that her newborn baby actually had Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Mack immediately quit her full-time job to care for her son, who had been sedated during testing while doctors worked to diagnose him and to see if he would be a candidate for chemotherapy. For 40 hours, Lincoln was unable to eat, yet by the time he was finally able to eat, mom’s milk supply had taken a huge hit since she barely had time to pump, and she was devastated that her only way of nurturing her sick baby was failing.

Facebook/Ashleigh Mack

“I have never been so scared and heartbroken when I was told my 4-month-old baby had a rare form of AML leukemia. I was so worried he wouldn’t breastfeed like he had been,” Mack wrote in a Facebook post. “My supply took a massive hit, so we’ve been working on getting that back up.”

Thanks to her perseverance and encouragement from nurses, however, Mack has been able to build her supply back up by pumping and breastfeeding Lincoln when he wants to. “He latched on as soon as I was able to feed him. Unfortunately he wouldn’t eat long and they put in an NG feeding tube,” Mack explained. “BUT I was able to have my pumped milk put through his NG tube! He started chemo last week and has been breastfeeding like a champ!”

“[Breastfeeding] provides him comfort when he’s cold and overwhelmed with vitals being taken, or PICC dressings being changed. I am grateful that I am able to provide that to him,” Mack said, and also explained that she believes her breast milk is helping him stay strong during the harsh treatment. “I truly believe that breast milk has aided in his response to the chemo — it’s providing nutrients and antibodies his body needs now more than ever.”

4 Things You Should Be Doing To Prep Your Child For Kindergarten This Fall

Change can be scary for some children who are stuck in a routine, and while some kids can’t wait to start kindergarten, others are filled with anxiety and fear at the thought of leaving mom’s side and flat-out refuse to go.

And in the weeks before the first day of school, those feelings often get magnified, however, the way you handle the situation now while there’s time to prepare will make all the difference in making kindergarten a fun experience rather than a traumatizing one.

Take a look at the four things to start doing this summer to prep your kids for the first day of kindergarten this fall:

4. Socialize: Kindergarten is the start of your child’s schooling, however, children learn more about social and communication skills than anything else, which is why it’s important to use the summer before socializing your child with other kids their age instead of having them perform the ABCs nonstop. By working on your child’s ability to play with others, follow directions, and cooperate, kindergarten won’t be so challenging for your child.

3. Visit The School: Not only will it make your child uneasy to hear that they are being sent off to some scary place they’ve never been to, but you’ll also be uncomfortable with leaving your child behind in an unfamiliar place. If the school has an orientation for students, take your little one along to see their new classroom, the cafeteria, and even the restrooms. If not, take a walk around the school and point out everything including the giant new playground they’ll get to play on every day during recess.

2. Practice The Basics: Some kids are afraid of not being prepared for class or not knowing what other kids know. To help, practice some of the basics that they’ll need to know like counting, the alphabet, and writing. They don’t have to perfect any of these skills, but it will help them to know what to expect.

1. Don’t Force It: Preparing for Kindergarten is a delicate task, as not preparing at all can make them feel terrified of the upcoming first day, yet prepping too hard will take the fun out of learning and make it feel like a punishment. Simply introduce them to new topics with enthusiasm, and let them decide if they are interested.

For example, instead of forcing a child to practice writing letters, offer to show them how. If they don’t seem interested, have them practice opening mail, coloring, or tying shoes, which develop fine motor skills and is the key to learning to write.

What else have you been doing to prepare for the first day of kindergarten? Let us know in the comments below, and please SHARE this with other parents on Facebook.

Cafe Owner Threatens To Discipline Unruly Children

Disciplining another person’s child is an extremely controversial topic amongst parents. Some welcome the help since it shows their children that their behavior is unacceptable, yet many others feel that strangers have no place telling their child how to behave.

Since it’s hard to tell which parents will be offended by a stranger disciplining their child, chances are most people won’t do anything if they see a child acting out in public, which is why one cafe owner has come under fire by parents around the world after she disciplined an unruly little kid and threatened to do it to any unruly kids who visits her cafe.

In the viral Facebook post, which has since been deleted, South Kiosk at Martello Park owner Kim Christofi threatened to give parents five minutes to get their kids under control before she would do it for them.

“You’ll get a family arrive and for some reason the child will start screaming, throwing a hysterical tantrum. We hope the parent will step in, but in the latest incident that didn’t happen and the child was really embarrassing herself,” Christofi explained of the latest incident which inspired her new policy.

“The parents left me no option but to have a quiet word. We ask them ‘would they stop screaming, would they like a drink and coloring book?’ I’m specifically talking about really unruly children, destructive behavior – smashing up the toy box, knocking down the chairs,” Christofi said.

“Can we make ourselves perfectly clear to all parents who are too scared to discipline their children about tantrum screaming,” Christofi wrote in the controversial Facebook post. “We will give you five lenient minutes to ask the child to stop screaming and then we will ask the child ourselves.”

“If that means you too having a tantrum about our having to speak to your child and hurling threats about not returning – that’s really okay with us. We have a duty of care to the rest of our customers,” she wrote.

“I would never bring my child with special needs anywhere near here,” one commenter said. “Having a tantrum is part of their development,” another said, “the parents may be ignoring the child for a reason and I strongly suggest you just let them get on with it.”

When temperatures soar over 100 degrees, most people escape the sweltering heat by staying indoors with the air conditioning running, but when one little boy realized his mailman wouldn’t be able to do the same, he came up with a way to keep him cool.

As temperatures reached 105 degrees in Virginia this past Thursday, which was one of the hottest days so far this year in the area, a heat advisory was put in place in the area that warned residents to stay indoors from around noon to 8 p.m.

8-year-old Carmine McDaniel realized their mailman would still have to be working outdoors carrying his heavy bag of mail, and asked his mom if he could do something to help.

“I just thought because it was really hot outside and I didn’t want him to maybe pass out or anything, because they are really important so people can pay their bills and stuff like that and I didn’t want him to pass out pretty much,” mom Terra McDaniel said after helping her son get together a cooler, and fill it with ice and cold bottles of water and Gatorade for their mailman.

Mom set up a hidden camera on the front porch, and when their mailman finally arrived, she captured the priceless moment he realized what had been left for him. “Thank god, thank you,” the mailman said in the video as he gulps down a cold drink. “Oh my god, yes! Whew.”

Birth Photographer Captures Moment Infant Crawls To Mom’s Breast

Many new moms are encouraged to attempt to breastfeed their newborn baby soon after birth, and struggle as they attempt to force the baby to feed. However, one mom decided to try a different approach, and luckily her birth photographer caught it all on camera.

Rather than force baby Harper to feed, first-time mom Jessica did some research and decided to try and let her newborn attempt a ‘breast crawl’ where the newborn literally crawls unassisted to mom’s breast to feed.

“Human babies, like other baby mammals, instinctively know how to find their mother’s breast,” breastcrawl.org explains. “The Breast Crawl is associated with a variety of sensory, central, motor and neuro-endocrine components, all directly or indirectly helping the baby to move and facilitate her survival in the new world. Smell, vision, and taste all help the newborn to detect and find the breast. Auditory inputs and touch make her comfortable and help to create a suitable environment.”

“I always meet with my clients beforehand to discuss any special moments they want me to be sure and not miss, and for Jessica and Don, that was the breast crawl,” birth photographer  Leilani Rogers said.

Baby Harper was born at 5:50 in the morning and was immediately placed on mom’s stomach to let her attempt the breast crawl. “It’s a process that takes a lot of patience,” said Rogers, who had only seen unsuccessful attempts.

Jessica managed to suppress her urges to help guide baby Harper, and patiently waited. About 44 minutes later, Harper managed to crawl all the way up on her own, even lifting her head slightly on her own on the way, and began breastfeeding.

“By the time baby Harper was exactly where she needed to be,” Rogers said. “She was highly motivated, and her latch was near perfect, with little to no coaching.”

Construction Worker Plays ‘Where’s Waldo’ With Sick Kids In The Hospital

Admitting your child to the hospital is one of the scariest things a parent can go through, not only because it means their child is seriously ill, but because it can feel like a hospital is robbing their baby of their childhood.

Construction site foreman Jason Haney knows first-hand what it’s like to have to leave your child in a hospital and how scary it can be for them, and is now trying to make each day a little brighter for sick kids in the Memorial Children’s Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.

Over the winter, Jason brought a blow-up snowman to the construction site he was working on, which sits right across the street from the children’s hospital so the kids had something nice to look at. “One of his co-workers made the comment ‘wouldn’t it be cool if we did something like Where’s Waldo?’,” Beacon Health System spokeswoman Heidi Prescott explained.

Jason loved the idea and got to work making an 8-foot-tall cut out of Waldo, and started hiding it around the construction site each day in a new location. “It didn’t take long to catch on, the kids whether they are in the rooms or in a play area, they look across as soon as they get to the window. They will look all over the building, point and exclaim ‘I found him!’,” said Prescott, who also explained how it helps the kids forget that they’re in the hospital for a few minutes each day.

When Jason’s now teenage daughter was just 3-year-old, she spent time in a children’s hospital, and he knows how stressful and scary it can be for both parent and child, and just wants to put a smile on everyone face during a tough time. “He’s eight-feet tall and a pain in the butt to move around sometimes,” Jason said. “He’s 50, 60 pounds and he’s awkward to carry. But it’s worth it for the kids.”

“My son was in the hospital in May after a bicycle accident. Waldo gave him something to look for outside of his room. Thank you so much for helping our hospital stay go a little better!” one patient’s mother wrote to Jason on his Facebook group.

If you’ve ever worked in an office, you’ll know how frustrating it can be when your food goes missing from the communal refrigerator no matter how many times you’ve labeled your food to ward off the thieves.

After one mom noticed someone was using her coffee creamer, she was a little annoyed but let it go. However, after it continued for over a week, she had had enough. But instead of calling the thief out for using something that wasn’t his, she came up with a better idea.

The unidentified mom, known as Phantom0591 on Reddit, posted a picture of her payback to the site, which included a note taped to the bottle to let the thief know that ‘coffee creamer’ he had been stealing all week was not exactly the milk he thought it was.

“Good morning, To whomever has been enjoying my coffee creamer all week… Surprise!!!  You’ve been drinking my breast milk,” the mystery mom who signed the letter as ‘B’ wrote. “Hope you’ve enjoyed – cheers!”

The weekend is never long enough for mothers to get all the chores done, which is why so many have to multitask in order to get it all done. However, one mom is warning parents everywhere to NEVER multitask while crossing this item of the to-do list.

Australian mom, Kelly-Anne Deverix was in the middle of doing chores around the house to prep for the upcoming week when she gave her 15-month-old son, Junior, a bath. When she heard the washing machine was finished, she decided to go quickly unload the clothes to save some time.

“He was very waterwise, as you can see in the photo he could stand up. At times he could slip but was able to pick himself straight back up,” Deverix said. However, when she walked back into the bathroom 10-15 minutes later, Junior was lifeless in the tub.

Paul Donley was in another room on his computer when he first heard his wife’s screams and ran in to see what happened. “I just grabbed him straight off her, doing CPR . . . I ended up with vomit in my mouth,” he said. “I thought I got him back a couple of times but I didn’t, but I didn’t fix him. Usually, I can fix things, but I couldn’t fix him,” he said in tears about the moment he knew his son was gone.

“(As a parent) we know what our children are capable of and not capable of. I just took that risk and that chance which I shouldn’t have,’’ Deverix said. “But it’s true you shouldn’t leave your children alone in the bath, some of us mothers take faith in that sort of thing. If my hearing was perfect I might have heard something.”

After a challenging year, one family of four was in need of a family vacation, where they could forget all their troubles temporarily and just enjoy their precious time together. However, before they could start their dream vacation, they had to make it there.

Father-of-two Paddy Doyle had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer, but wanted to get away with his family so he could enjoy some quality time with them and forget for a little while that he was fighting for his life. Together, with his wife Carrie, the couple planned their dream vacation to Portugal with their 5-year-old daughter Ruby and almost 2-year-old son Jack.

Yet two days before they were supposed to leave for their holiday, Jack came down with chickenpox and mom thought their trip would have to be canceled. Luckily, however, she got the all-clear from the doctor and notified the airline, and everything was back on schedule.

“So we got all the way to the airport today, actually boarded the plane, seat belts on and everything! To then be told by a flight attendant that we had to get off!!! We couldn’t believe what we were hearing…!! Because of Jack’s chicken pox, even though he’s had the all clear from the Dr’s and even though when we booked they knew the situation…! Apparently it was all from bad communication and because we did have a fit to fly letter from the Doctor! Heartbroken wasn’t the word,” Carrie wrote on to Facebook.

“When I had to tell Ruby to get off she was so confused and upset to be told that we weren’t going on holiday again,” said Cassie, who almost broke down in tears as she consoled her family. Yet as they sat there devastated waiting for their bags to be removed from the flight, Zita Small, an airport employee of 20 years approached them.

Carrie explained everything to the stranger, who had recently lost her own husband. “You and your beautiful family will be going on that holiday,” Small said. She immediately got to work arranging a new flight in first class the next morning at no cost, stored their luggage in her office overnight, and even drove the family to the doctor so they could get the fit to fly note from their doctor.

“Not only did Zita make this holiday happen, but we’ve had VIP treatment all the way through. She went completely out of her way with no benefit to her whatsoever, Carrie said. “It’s heart-warming to know what a beautiful world we do live in.”

Premature Baby Wears Mom’s Engagement Ring As A Bracelet

While parents to full-term babies often marvel at how tiny their precious newborn is, they’re nowhere near as small as premature babies, and one first-time mom decided to put that size into perspective.

Tiffany Thomas was just six months pregnant when she started experiencing back pain and blood loss, which sparked an early labor. Despite having three entire months left before her due date, she gave birth to her first daughter, Alice, weighing just 1 lb 14.5 oz.

“When she was born my partner and I didn’t get to hold her,’ said 27-year-old Tiffany. ‘They stabilized her on the resuscitation table and I sat up on the bed and I could just see them doing CPR on her. After they stabilized her we got to see her but then she was taken to the Royal Gwent hospital in an ambulance.”

“We couldn’t touch her for 17 days. We could get some contact through the holes in the incubator but we couldn’t hug her or hold her properly,” mom explained. “Being told when you can and can’t touch your own child is difficult. We have no pictures of her first day but we know the reason for that was for her own benefit because she had to be treated.”

But little by little, baby Alice started getting stronger and was able to spend ten minutes a day being cuddled by mom and dad. “Alice was tiny and a nurse told me to put my engagement ring on her arm to see how tiny she was. It fit around her arm all the way up to her shoulder,” Tiffany said.

The Dangerous Stroller Mistake You’re Probably Making This Summer

Every summer, parents become obsessed with protecting their babies’ delicate skin from the harsh sun, however, they don’t realize that in an attempt to shield or block them from the sun, they might actually being putting their little one in even more danger.

If keeping little ones shaded is out of the question, most parents rely on slathering sunscreen all over their babies. But if parents are just going out for a walk or running errands with the stroller, many love to pop up the stroller canopy cover and even drape a light blanket over to ensure not one ray of sunlight damages their baby’s skin.

While parents mean well, researchers in Sweden have discovered that draping anything, even the thinnest of cloths, can be extremely dangerous as the reduced air circulation and trapped heat can cause heat stroke and SIDS.

“It gets extremely hot down in the pram, something like a thermos,” Svante Norgren, M.D., a pediatrician at Astrid Lindgren children’s hospital in Stockholm explained. “There is also bad circulation of the air and it is hard to see the baby with a cover over the pram.” According to their experiment, leaving a thin cloth over a stroller on a mild 72-degree day for just 3o minutes caused the temperature inside the stroller to reach 93 degrees. And after an hour, the temperature rose to about 100 degrees.

Take a look at 3 safer ways to keep your baby protected from the sun AND the heat this summer:

3. Get rid of the blankets: Instead of draping a light blanket over your baby’s stroller, find a light, perforated material like mesh to shade your baby while also allowing air to circulate.

2. Sunscreen: If you want to keep your baby’s skin protected from the sun, apply sunscreen to only their exposed skin like hands, arms, faces, or legs rather then the entire body to save time.

1. Stroller Modifications: Choose a stroller with a large canopy cover and removable back panel so hot air doesn’t get trapped, and try clipping a small fan to the stroller’s handlebars to keep your baby from overheating.
