After stunning photos of Madeline Stuart, an 18-year-old Australian model with Down Syndrome, were posted to Facebook in May, the model made international headlines and has received numerous modeling requests. Just two months later in July, Stuart landed a major modeling contract with the athletic wear brand Manifesta.
Now Stuart has signed with MODA in association with the Christopher Reeve Foundation to walk in New York Fashion Week, and also landed an advertising campaign as the face of a new line of handbags by EverMaya. Her budding modeling career will help to change the general perceptions about people with intellectual disabilities.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan.com, Madeline’s mom Roseanne explained how the world was ready for someone like Madeline to be in the spotlight. “The world was ready. The world wants to be inclusive, it just hasn’t had anyone on such a platform that they were able to do it easily. I remember when I was a child at school, people were homophobic and things like that, and now it’s cool to be gay! Imagine in 10 years what society will be like for people with disabilities. It’s not going to be how it is now, it’s going to be the norm,” she said.
“I would just like people to accept, love, and show kindness. The modeling is fun and everything, but it’s just a vehicle to get the message out. I think that’s why she’s done so well, is because this isn’t about us. It’s about fighting the fight for all the people out there that are a bit different that need to be loved.” Rosanne said, when asked what she wanted people to take away from her daughter’s work.

Whenever you miss your partner, you should let them know by telling them. These three words will make your partner feel wanted and appreciated when you notice how their absence effects you.

One thing being in a long-distance relationship has taught me is that being told ‘I was thinking about you,’ or ‘[something] reminded me of you’ can be even more moving than being told that I’m missed.
Saying that you were thinking of your partner shows them that they are so much a part of your life that they are on your mind even when you aren’t physically together.

The top thing you should be telling your partner everyday is ‘I love you.’ However, I want to make it clear that you shouldn’t just say the words everyday, you should mean it everyday.
Saying those words too often, in moments where it feels like an obligation, will rob the words of their meaning, and make it feel insincere. (Think about how the words ‘I’m sorry’ have a totally different effect depending on if you actually mean it.)

Dogs are domesticated pets, but we often forget how much they want and need space to explore and run free. Kelly Lund, from Colorado, hates to see dogs locked away, and has made sure his ‘husky/arctic wolf/malamute’ named Loki has a life full of adventure.
“I believe dogs aren’t meant to live out their lives in a backyard or inside a house. I hate to see that. I hope we are inspiring people to get out, explore our world, and make memories with their pups,” Lund recently said in a post on BoredPanda.
Loki and Lund have a very close bond, as is evident by the incredible adventures the two regularly go on.
“I’m often surprised by how much joy animals can bring into our lives. Even more, the joy that comes from healthy relationships with them is really amazing. It seems hard to describe so I typically don’t try,” Lund said.
Loki has no trouble navigating the snow or steep terrain, and stays right behind his owner.

For many college freshman, the best part about going away to school is the newfound freedom that goes along with not living with parents. However that freedom can be dangerous for the waistline when you’re surrounded by all-you-can-eat buffet style dining halls, midnight cookie delivery services, and enough booze to fill the Grand Canyon.

7. Don’t say yes to a ‘fourth meal’.
You’ll be tempted to indulge in this late night meal because you never typically had any food after dinner when you lived at home besides the occasional dessert. It might even be masked at a late night study snack, but let’s not kid ourselves, if there’s as much food as you ate at dinner, it’s a fourth meal.
It’s ok to treat yourself to a late night snack, especially when studying, but be sure it’s actually a snack and not another meal.
6. Don’t skip breakfast.
If you do find yourself falling into bad sleeping habits, it’ll be very tempting to hit the snooze button as many times as possible, and wake up just before your first class starts. However, you’ll be leaving no time for the most important meal of the day.
According to a study published in The American Society of Nutritional Sciences’ Journal of Nutrition, calories consumed during breakfast are more satisfying and filling than those eaten later in the day. This leads to less calorie consumption overall, as you’re less likely to overeat.
5. Pick at least three food groups in every meal.
When eating on a meal plan in a buffet style dining hall, the best way to ensure you’re not eating just greasy food and carbs, make sure to pick food from every food group, and an array of color. By consciously making yourself eat a variety of foods, you’ll be getting a wider array of nutrients, and won’t fill up on all the comfort food available.
4. Hydrate.
Drinking enough water is one of the most important- but most forgotten- thing you can do for your health and weight. Drinking water helps keep your metabolism running and helps you feel and stay full. WebMD even suggests drinking a glass of water before each meal to prevent overeating.
Be sure to drink water at all times of the day by carrying around a reusable water bottle with you to class.
3. Not all Liquor is created equally.
Alcoholic beverages are just empty calories that provide no nutritional benefit, and are also many times loaded with sugar. A single can of beer is about 150 calories, so when you drink five or six of those, remember you just drank about 1,000 extra calories in one sitting. (One pound of fat is approximately 3,500 calories!)
And if you choose mixed drinks with even more sugar, you be packing on the pounds in no time. Not to mention, you’ll also have worse hangovers, which will make you want to lay in bed with Netflix all day.
2. Exercise!
Exercising to maintain weight isn’t a new concept, but many freshman fail to fit in daily exercise. There’s no excuse not to be active when you’re surrounded with free exercise classes, cheap physical training sessions, and free gym memberships.
And if you can’t always fit in a workout at the gym, remember to always walk to class no matter how tempting it is to drive.
1. Get your beauty sleep.
Late nights out and heavy workloads are a perfect storms for not getting enough sleep and forming terrible sleep habits. And poor sleep habits won’t just take a toll on your energy levels, they’ll set you up for a viscous cycle of weight gain.
Not only are you more likely to give into cravings and reach for the quicker, sugary snacks when you’re exhausted, but you’ll be less motivated to get to the gym, and your metabolism won’t function properly.
Try going to bed at around the same time each night, and when you do go out on the town, there’s no reason to stay up until sunrise. If there’s one thing you’ll learn, nothing good happens after 2 AM, so save yourself the trouble, and get yourself in bed.

Instead of hunting small mice and birds, this clever cat decided to hunt easier prey, which just happens to be the neighbors’ stuff.
Meet Dusty, Jim Coleman and Jean Chu’s cat. Over the years, Dusty has stolen over 600 items from their San Mateo, California neighbors.
When cameras were finally installed in the neighborhood to find out who was responsible for the robberies, neighbors were shocked to find out Dusty was responsible for the missing goods.
Dusty will steal anything that’s not bolted to the ground, including socks, towels, bathing suits, and children’s stuffed animal toys.

While the entire interaction between Anthony Granai and his dog Ettore is in Italian, it’s clear the precious dog was dying knowing his owner was mad at him.

When Ettore’s begging for forgiveness was not successful, he decided to step up the groveling, and move on from head nudges to a full on bear hug.

Rocksy will knock on the door for hours until the cat bowl gets refilled with food.
While many people think all raccoons who are outside in the daylight have rabies, this woman explains that Rocksy is just a nursing mom who has to venture out of her den during the day to get enough food to be able to feed her babies.

Write down exactly how your perfect day would go from the moment you wake up to the time you fall asleep.
Maybe you’d ideally be waking up 30 minutes earlier, exercising before work, or even going to a completely different job. Whatever your ideal day entails, write it all down. No desire or aspiration is too lofty in this dream day.
4. Write down every aspect of your normal day that wouldn’t be part of your ‘perfect’ day.
After writing out what the perfect day looks like, write down what reality looks like. How different are those days?
Maybe you typically wake up late feeling exhausted, or you spend too much time glued to your phone. Write down every and all aspect of your normal day that you wouldn’t include in that perfect day.
3. Figure out how to remove those things from your life.
Some things will obviously be easier, quicker fixes, and others will require more time and planning. However, you have the chance to make your day look more like your ideal life each day.
If you want to wake up earlier feeling refreshed with more time to workout or eat a healthy breakfast, the fix could be as simple as going to bed earlier without the TV playing as you fall asleep. If your ideal day includes some more major changes like waking up in a different city, figure out what steps you can start today to make that a reality.
Putting off the initial steps, however small or seemingly insignificant, will only ensure that your perfect day is never achieved.
2. Regularly remind yourself of your own version of ‘perfection’.
Every person has a different opinion of what perfection and success look like, so there’s no reason you should be trying to live your life according to someone else’s version of success.
When you feel yourself getting caught up in other people’s expectations and putting unnecessary pressure on yourself take some time to remind yourself what’s important to you and how you want to live your life.
1. Repeat.
The best way to actually make your dream life a reality is by repeating these steps as often as you need to see change. Maybe try repeating steps 3-5 once a week to remind yourself what aspects of your life need more attention, and to prevent falling back into old habits and patterns that don’t reflect your vision of happiness.
When you repeat these steps, you’ll start to notice and find motivation in the fact that the list of things you need to change to have a perfect day will start to shrink as you make changes in your life.

Every year, adventurers travel to Black Rock City, Nevada for the annual Burning Man festival. At the end of their 9-day experience, festivalgoers are left with dusty belongings, and many times, missed love connections.
In an attempt to reconnect with playa romances in the real world, people post their stories to the legendary ‘Missed Connections‘ page on Craigslist. However, due to the setting of these chance encounters, each missed connections is more fanciful and extraordinary than the last.
For those unfamiliar to the ‘Missed Connections’ page, users typically include tags like ‘m4w’ to signify a ‘man looking for woman’.

5. Burning Man: Zeitgeist looking for Guess from the Ashram Galactica – m4w (Black Rock City)
I should say that I was hardly sober (very much to my determinant in this situation), but I understood your playa name to be Guess. A confusing, but beautiful name if that was correct…I gave you one of my LED hair lights and you gave me a ring light… I was on my way to meet you and your friends at a party at 4:30 and Esplanade, when I got a bit over whelmed by the beauty and chaos of the area, so I walked away to seek some calm off a side street when I got hit hard by my first severe white-out for 30-45 minutes…The romantic in me hopes that with any luck this message will reach you, otherwise I suppose like everything else out there, it will blow away like dust in the wind.
4. Crying under a crocodile at burning man. Mark, aka Fruit Salad – w4m (oakland downtown)
You were crying under a crocodile. I was with a couple friends who noticed. You had a purple (was it blue?) faux-hawk. We descended upon you and embraced and comforted you. We ended up back at your camp in a delirious state of sleep deprivation and substance come-down. You made us bacon and eggs and we lay down for a nap that became a bit of a sticky triangle…Are you out there? I remember you saying you lived in Oakland. I remember your playa name being fruit salad. I remember your hands, and all your bracelets, I remember your brown eyes, with their tears and their intensity. These are the only details I can recall to help me find you.
3. Twelve from Burning Man – w4m
I know this is a total longshot but we hung out Friday night after meeting at a camp “bar” A huge group of guys followed me around the playa calling me Queen until it was late and just the three of us. I named you Twelve. I guess I passed out and woke up confused then ran away. I wish I had stayed and spent the rest of the burn with you. I wish I could remember where you were from. Hopefully that wasn’t the last time I will see you. Also if you are Twelve give me some background details so I know it’s really you.
2. Looking for Ox from Burning Man – w4m
I feel a little silly posting this, but I really thought we would meet again. We met over by the big light up orb. You gave me some of your hair :). You had to leave to volunteer at Center Camp and came to say goodbye. Your energy was infectious and I’d like the chance to get to know you past the few sentences exchanged.

Met at home brew joint in Center Camp at Burning Man on Burn Night–You were a Geologist from Orange County, me, a tax lawyer in Houston, Texas;. . ..had a date to meet at the Twisted Swan Irish Bar at 4:49 & F per iburn ap at 8:00PM, by the time I figured out it was a misprint and at 4:30&C, it was too late! I’m soooo bummed. You were a doll.
