Getting a call in the middle of the day from the school principal is never a good sign, which is why one Oklahoma mom was understandably nervous when she saw who was calling.
Mom Ladye Hobson had been called a few times before about her son Brylan, and was waiting to hear about what her son did this time to get in trouble when the principal suddenly said that Brylan had ‘made my day,’ said Gayla, the Gatewood Elementary School Principal.
“Oh dear Lord, I am so glad to hear you say that you are calling for a good reason,” the relieved mom replied. However, that relief quickly vanished when the principal explained that the faculty had found a dead squirrel in his backpack.
“Please pause here to imagine my horror,” Ladye wrote in a now viral post. “To say I am embarrassed is an understatement. I. Am. Mortified. A dead squirrel? Why is it in his backpack? How did the squirrel die? And WHY in the world would he try to keep this dead animal in his backpack?”
And when asked what the dead animal was doing in his backpack, the mischievous little boy had the most adorable answer. “I really wanted squirrel dumplings for dinner,” Bryson said.
“When I see Brylan three hours later he is still fighting tears, apologizing profusely. ‘Mom I’m so sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking.’ I ask him if he’s learned his lesson, smile, and let him know that he gets a free pass on this one,” Ladye wrote. “I can’t even be mad at this point. He has made the principal’s day, after all.”
How would you react if the school principal called you to tell you your child had hidden a dead animal in their backpack all day?
