Drivers are always told how important it is to keep their eyes on the road. However, one lucky toddler from China is alive today thanks to a taxi driver who took his eyes off the road at the exact right moment.
While driving across a bridge in Ruzhou City in central China, one taxi driver couldn’t help but notice a mother holding her baby close to the railing of the bridge. She didn’t appear to be in distress, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was very wrong.
Moments later, he saw the woman toss the baby over the railing into the river below and calmly walked away. Realizing she had no intention of saving the baby, the heroic driver pulled his car over to the side, jumped into the water, and rescued the sinking baby. He quickly tied a rope around the baby’s torso so other witnesses up on the bridge could pull him up to safety.
Once back on the bridge, the men and women began trying to get the water out of his lungs. Thankfully, paramedics arrived shortly after and rushed the baby to the hospital where he eventually woke up and is now in stable condition. According to police, the mother suffers from a mental illness but are still investigating the case to see if the mother will face charges for attempting to kill her baby.
