Dogs love to chase small animals and explore their surroundings, which is why one mom wasn’t extremely worried when her 10-year-old Patterdale terrier crawled into a drain pipe in the ground.
Ziggy the dog has a history of disappearing to explore his family’s farm, however, when he crawled into a drain pipe but then failed to returned when Lauren Flintoft started calling his name, she started to worry that he might be in danger. “I was worried he might have been stuck and that’s why he didn’t appear,” Lauren said.
“My husband Tim spent the whole night trying to entice him out and, when he didn’t emerge, I called in help,” said Lauren, who called the RSPCA for help. A rescue team arrived shortly after and started mapping the underground pipes on the property. The group worked for hours digging holes to try and locate Ziggy and finally found him 19 hours after he first got trapped.
Tim carefully pulled Ziggy out of the pipe and was relieved to see he wasn’t injured after spending so many hours trapped. “He’s now back home with his owners where he belongs,” said Faebian Vann, an animal collection officer with the RSPCA. “And no doubt he’ll be getting up to no good again very soon.”
