Getting a little kid to eat healthy isn’t always the easiest thing to do, which is why parents are more than happy to give their little ones plenty of fruit during snack time. However, one Welsh mom is warning parents of the hidden danger that could be lurking inside this kid favorite fruit.
22-year-old Keely Pritchard was preparing a snack for her three-year-old son, but as she handed him a banana, she noticed an odd spot on the banana skin. At first, she thought it was mold, but when she grabbed it out of her son’s hand and looked closer she realized it was something much worse.
“My mum bought some of the kid-size bananas from Aldi on Sunday. I only live around the corner from her so I’m there quite a lot. I saw the bananas in the fruit bowl and I ate one and when I went to get one for my son, we noticed a strange growth on it. We thought it was mold,” Pritchard explained.
To get a better look, she decided to cut into the spot, but as she cut, dozens of baby spiders burst out of the banana. They had no idea what kind of spider the babies were and could easily have been poisonous and brought the bananas back to Aldi immediately.
“They took the bananas back and said they will freeze them and try to investigate how they got in there,” she added. “There was no sign of the spider that laid the eggs but I think Aldi are going to try to find out if they are poisonous.”
“I just want other people with children make sure they always check bananas as it could be dangerous if spiders lay inside them and get eaten,” Pritchard said.
