Every year, about 2.7 million animals are adopted from shelters, but unfortunately, 2.7 million shelter animals have to be euthanized when they can’t find their forever homes in time.

When this sweet 1-year-old named Bobby landed at the Miami-Dade Animal Services shelter, the volunteers were sure he’d find a home, but two months later, Bobby is left cowering and alone in his green Christmas sweater after no one has come and rescue him.

Bobby was left by his family just 10 days before Christmas and has been crushed ever since. To help families to notice the sweet 1-year-old, the volunteers decided to dress him up in a cozy green sweater.

But two months later, no one has noticed Bobby and he’s now considered a ‘code red’ since he will have to be put him down if no one adopts him soon. “He sits by the kennel gate with his head down because so many ppl have passed him by that he is resigned to the fact that no one wants him. Please don’t let this boy die here. He deserves a second chance at life in a loving home with good people.”

K-9 soldiers and their partners rely on each other to stay alive in incredibly dangerous situations and build a trust that is unparalleled. So when this soldier’s K-9 partner passed away, he decided to honor him in the sweetest way possible.

Sergeant Dave Heyhoe served in Afghanistan alongside his K-9 partner Treo to detect bombs, and the two saved dozens of lives over the years. In fact, the brave black labrador even earned the Dickin Medal for Gallantry, which is the highest honor awarded to military dogs in the British military.

After Heyhoe and Treo retired, they were able to stay together and the dog became part of the family along with Heyhoe’s wife and three children.

In October of 2015, Treo died at the age of 14 and left a hole in Heyhoe’s heart that couldn’t be filled. To pay tribute to the partner who kept him alive at war and the dog who had become like a son, Heyhoe decided to get a tattoo mixed with his ashes.
11

“The tattoo completes me,” Heyhoe said. “People might think it’s strange, but Treo was like a son to me, and his death his knocked me for six.Over the years we have seen gunfire, death and bomb scares together – I’ve been lost without him. Now it feels like Treo is by my side – where he’s supposed to be.”

Cats aren’t known for being the most sentimental or affectionate animals, but these two orange kittens were bonded for life after being abandoned as kittens and being found in a garden.

When Anya Yukhtina, a producer and event manager from Moscow, Russia, discovered two helpless day-old kittens, she knew she had to do something to help them. Since the two orphaned brothers were clearly struggling on their own without their mother, Anya took them home where they were finally cared for properly, and allowed to thrive.

The kittens were just days old when Anya found the duo in a garden, and decided to take them home as they were too small to make it on their own. The cats got around the clock care with feedings every 4 hours and cosy warm baths.

Soon enough, the two brothers were healthy again, and the babies started growing like normal.

While they may have started growing up, the two never grew apart. The now 8-month-old cats love getting into trouble, curling up in the sink, watching TV together, and taking long afternoon naps together.

Baby Gito, a sweet baby orangutan, was found abandoned at just five months old in 2015 after he had been dumped in a cardboard box and left out in the sun to die. Thankfully, Gito was rescued by the International Animal Rescue team just in time and was given all the care he needed to get better.

But all the care in the world wouldn’t matter if he couldn’t interact and bond with another orangutan. After baby Asoka was orphaned and ended up at their Orangutan Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Sungai Awan, the team decided he would be a perfect match to play and bond with Gito.

At first, Gito was incredibly curious at his new brother since he had never met another baby orangutan before, and couldn’t wait to interact, but tiny Asoka was a little hesitant.

But soon enough the two warmed up to each other, and Gito planted a gentle kiss on his new brothers forehead as they played together.

At 14 months, most babies are still crawling around or just learning to walk on their own, but this talented 1-year-old little boy named Johnny has already mastered the art of snowboarding.

Johnny’s adventure-loving parents took him on his first snowboarding trip with his own tiny board, boots, and snowsuit, and the 14-month-old was completely at ease and confident on the mountain, which would even give some adults some trouble.

While on a ski trip in Park City Mountain Resort in Utah, these snowboarding parents took along their son Johnny, to start teaching him the ropes.

Winning a half marathon is no easy feat, even for the most dedicated runner, but this incredible dad managed to place first in the Katy Half Marathon all while pushing his 11-month-old daughter in her stroller.

In just 1 hour, 11 minutes, 27 seconds, Calum Neff, a 31-year-old father from Katy, Texas, crossed the finish line with his 20-pound daughter, Holland, in her 22-pound stroller. Incredibly, the two managed to beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest half marathon by a runner pushing a stroller by more than two minutes.

“It was just a truly epic day to share with my youngest daughter. It shows that anything is really possible and being a dad and working doesn’t mean you have to give up on other dreams and hobbies,” Neff said.

Neff bundled up his daughter for the 13.1-mile race that started early in the morning, and the minute the two started, Holland began waving and laughing as everyone cheered them on. “For almost the entire race, she was waving and clapping and talking and babbling away,” Neff said. “She was stealing all the hearts along the way, that’s for sure.”

When Neff and Holland finally crossed the finish line after the incredible experience, he immediately grabbed the first place medal that had been placed over his neck, and crowned his little girl as the winner instead. “I wanted that to be hers,” Neff said. “It was fun for me to put that around her neck.”

We like to believe that love has a way of conquering all, and these long-lost sweethearts are proving that not even 71 years apart and over 10,000 miles can keep two people who care about each other apart.

After seven decades spent living separate lives, 93-year-old WWII veteran Norwood Thomas was contacted by 88-year-old Joyce Morris, the woman he had fallen for and planned to marry while at war. “We said goodbye like we were going to meet next weekend and then we never met again,” Thomas said of the last time he had seen Morris in 1945.

Last year, the two finally found each other again and saw each other for the first time on a Skype date, but just seeing each other was not enough. After hearing their story, hundreds of people made donations online, and Air New Zealand donated first class tickets to get Thomas to Australia.

After the long trip, the two finally got to hug, laugh, and tease one another like old times, and are getting to spend Valentine’s Day together during the two-week trip that Thomas describes as the “most wonderful thing that could have happened to me.”

“When she called me ‘Tommy,’ her nickname for me, Oh, my God, it stirred emotions that had been dormant for a long, long time. She had always been on the fringes of my thoughts this whole time,” Thomas told ABC News. “She’d always pop up as a pleasant memory, and it turns out that she’d been thinking of me this whole time too.”

Your dog might just be a pet, but any dog lover will know that their constant presence and companionship makes them an irreplaceable member of the family who is just as hard to say goodbye to as your own sibling.

When faced with the impossible task of saying goodbye to their beloved family dog, these four sisters from Adelaide, Australia came up with an adorable way for the Dobbie family to pay tribute to the many years of love and happiness that have come from their four-legged companion.

Tigger, the 16-year-old Jack Russel dog, became sick and was scheduled to be put down, but before that sad day, the family came together to recreate their favorite picture with their pup.

Valentine’s Day is one of the most romantic days of the year, which is why two camels at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden waited until now to announce their exciting news.

While all the animals got some Valentine’s Day love from their caretakers with special treats and hand-made toys, Humphrey and Saraai, the two camels at the zoo’s camel exhibit, revealed they were expecting their own bundle of love.

The zoo made special Valentine’s Day decorations for their animals just in time for the holiday of love, but had a special announcement on one of the camel’s decorations. The sign read, “Happy Valentine’s Day, We’re Expecting.”

They say everything happens for a reason, and while there’s no justification for the tragic attack that this woman experienced, it was also the thing that eventually led her to true love.

Four years ago, Melissa Dohme experienced the worst day of her life when her ex-boyfriend tried to murder her, stabbing her 32 times. Yet thanks to a group of amazing first responders and a miracle, Melissa didn’t die.

“I remember there were tons of police officers, ambulance, and fire rescue. Everyone was there all at once,” Melissa told Fox 13 .

Ten months after the horrific attack, Melissa was focused on her recovery and was sharing her story, when Cameron Hill, one of the firefighters that saved her life, found himself in the audience during one of her speeches. “I was just in awe of how far she’d come,” Cameron said.

Cameron invited Melissa back to dinner with the rest of the firemen, and the two hit it off and later began dating. “He’s been by my side through it all, helping me, loving me,” Melissa said. A few months later, Cameron proposed to Melissa while on a date at a Tampa Bay Rays game where she was scheduled to throw out the opening pitch.

“I had to go through all this stuff that led me to find him. I wouldn’t want to go through what I went through again, but I also wouldn’t change it because it led me to Cameron,” Melissa said.

When you think of adorable farm animals covered in wooly fur, sheep are the first – and naturally the only – thing that comes to mind, but it seems they’re not the only barnyard animals covered in the wiry wool jacket.

The lesser-known breed of pigs is known as Mangalica pigs or ‘sheep pigs’, and have been making headlines lately for their unusual coat of thick, fuzzy wool and their uncanny resemblance to sheep.

Mangalica pigs, which originally come from Hungary, were originally developed in the 1800s but have only just become popular again since they are easily domesticated.

The Hungarian breed of pig is actually quite easy to care for and incredibly low-maintenance. “If you treat them nicely, they’ll become as tame as dogs — they’ll follow you, play with you,” breeder Wilhelm Kohl told Modern Farmer.

Abandoned Baby Elephant Refuses To Leave Her New Mom’s Side

Elephant calves are usually dependent on their mothers for about three to four years, so when a newborn baby elephant named Moyo was abandoned by her family after almost drowning while trying to cross a flooded river at just a few days old, she didn’t have a great chance of surviving.

Luckily, a group of rangers found the baby and took her to the Wild Is Life sanctuary in Zimbabwe, which cares for orphaned wild animals and is run by Roxy Danckwerts. Currently, the sanctuary is home to 15 different species from squirrels to elephants.

Baby Moyo was abandoned by her herd and was left to die. However, just when a pack of vicious hyenas were about to attack the weak and defenseless animal, rangers stepped in and rescued her.

While Moyo is cared for by a group of different caretakers, she has formed a special bond with owner Roxy during her recovery. “She knows my voice, my smell and somehow knows where I am at all times,” Roxy said. “How, I have no idea!”

The now 14-month-old follows her foster mom everywhere she goes. Even when Roxy is relaxing on the couch “Moyo is just as important to me, as I am to her. She is one of those animals with whom I have formed an extraordinary bond of friendship, trust and love.”

Eventually, the goal is for Moyo to be released back into the wild once she’s old enough, and while it’s Roxy’s goal to have her be free, she is also riddled with anxiety over her special companion.

“All parents want the best for their children. I want the best for the elephant children, and that best is freedom to roam and to make their own choices. So, yes, I will probably have a nervous emotional collapse (one of many) but that does not deter me from pursuing this goal,” Roxy explained.

Meet Juniper: The World’s Happiest And Most Adorable Pet Fox

Foxes may not be your typical pet, in fact, it’s illegal to keep a fox as a pet in some places, but Juniper the fox has formed a special bond with her incredible owner who has become her adopted mom.

Juniper, who has become known as the ‘world’s happiest fox‘, was brought home when she was just a defenseless baby, and her owner has documented her every move as she’s grown over the past year on her Instagram page, which has now attracted more than 92,000 followers.

Juniper has been with her owner since she was just a tiny fluffball, which is why she’s so well adjusted around people now. “When she was growing up I would take her everywhere with me,” her owner explained. “She got really accustom to car rides and people, she loves both.”

Today, Juniper is her steadfast companion who never stops smiling, is always getting into trouble, and loves a good game of tag around the house.

Yet, as adorable and as wonderful as Juniper is, her owner warns others that caring for a fox is nothing like owning a dog or a cat as they have very specific diets, need plenty of outdoors time, and need around the clock monitoring.

“Foxes are not like dogs. While they may display some characteristics similar to dogs these animals have not been bred to want to please people, while dogs on the other hand have. These animals are prone to biting and destructive behavior. They require an extensive amount of time and care to get them to the point where they are even sociable. Juniper takes up 90% of my day. If you don’t want to get bitten.. Don’t get one. If you don’t want to clean up pee constantly.. Don’t get one. If you want something to cuddle in the bed with you every night…Don’t get one.”

A dog is not just a pet, but a member of the family, and when this woman named Emily found out that her seemingly healthy dog had only a few weeks to live, she was crushed but knew she couldn’t let the news ruin their time together. Instead, Emily decided to come up with a bucket list that she and her dog Buddy would complete together.

Just two weeks ago, Buddy, a six-year-old Australian Blue Heeler was a perfectly happy and healthy dog, but after a visit to the veterinarian, they discovered Buddy had a severe case of lyphoma which had progressed too quickly and caught too late to do anything about.

Buddy was rescued by Emily from Queensland, Australia two years ago and the two have been inseperable ever since. After the heartbreaking diagnosis, Buddy was given only four to six weeks to live, and while it wasn’t as long as Emily thought she’d have with her best friend, it was long enough to try and cross off the 27 items from the bucket list.

So far, Emily and Buddy have completed 6 items on the list including enjoying a day at the dog spa, eating a steak dinner, and go for a run on the beach. In order to help fund the rest of their adventures like paw-paint a canvas picture or ride along in a fire truck, Emily has set up a Go Fund Me page.

“A lot of people have been asking about donations so I have set up a page for it through GoFundMe,” Emily wrote to in a post to Facebook. “Any funds that are left over will be donated to either the RSPCA or VSS to help out another pet in need but please know that although all your help will be greatly appreciated it is definitely not expected. Thank you so much to everybody for all your support and offers to help us so far, I’m honestly just blown away by how amazing you all have been – I can’t express in words how much it all means to me!!”

While Valentine’s Day can be a wonderful reminder of the love you share with your significant other, it can be especially hard for those who are single or are newly single.

When Valentine’s Day was approaching, this recently divorced mother of one named Emma was understandably dreading the day, but her 4-year-old son named Max turned out to be the perfect date.

“I have always brought my son up to be thoughtful, kind, caring and appreciate even the smallest gestures,” Emma wrote to Facebook. “After a quick grocery shop, my son told me to close my eyes (which I kept partially open to see what he was up to) and he proceeded to choose me a Valentine’s card and a small teddy bear in a gift bag. My eyes welled up as we continued to shop.”

When February 14th finally arrived, Max brought his mom and date to Pizza Express to treat her with a meal that he would pay for with his jar of pennies.

“After a delicious 3-course meal, we went to pay. We were greeted with a waitress in tears who had watched our special ‘dinner date’. Looking at her eyes welling up, I also began to shed a tear,” Emma said. “She gave us our meal free of charge as a gift from Pizza Express in Torquay as she was so touched by what my 4-year-old son had done.”

Pit bulls often get a bad reputation for being vicious and dangerous animals, yet this sweet pit bull named Molly is proving that not even a painful accident with a train can squash her loving and happy spirit.

Molly had darted in front of an Amtrak train in a tunnel in Baltimore late last January, and was found by officer Kevin McMullen covered in blood, cuts, and a severed back leg. Despite her incredibly painful and deadly injuries, Molly’s first instinct was to cover him in kisses.

Molly lost her hind leg and parts of her tail in the accident, and miraculously survived after being rushed to get treatment at BARCS Animal Shelter. As she healed, officer McMullen kept coming by to visit and each time Molly laid eyes on him, she lit up and couldn’t stop giving her kisses.

At the age of 13, Sean Swarner was given just two weeks to live, but today, the 41-year-old has fought cancer twice and is proving that nothing- not even a missing lung- can stop you from fulfilling your goals and dreams.

Swarner was just 13 years old when he was first diagnosed with cancer, and then got the crushing news that his cancer was back at age 16. “I remember sitting on the bottom of the shower floor when my friends were out having fun with their lives. I was losing my hair, 60 pounds overweight, crying by eyeballs out,” he explained. “It was something that no one should ever have to go through.”

“What kept me going is a quote I came up with and it’s,’The human body can live roughly 30 days without food. The human condition can sustain itself for roughly three days without water, but no human alive can live for more than 30 seconds without hope.’ So hope kept me going,” Swarner said.

After beating his own uphill battle for a second time, Swarner decided that he and his one working lung would climb the tallest mountains on every continent.

Today, Swarner has accomplished that goal, and has created the Cancer Climber Association, which grants a cancer survivor the chance to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with him, to help show them the strength of the human body, and more importantly, the human spirit.

“Taking people up Kilimanjaro, I see a transformation. They make this trek, they get to the top, and they come back down, and I can see that they’re stronger, and more confident,” Swarner said. “It gives them the tools to say, ‘Hey, if I can conquer that mountain, I can do anything.'”

While adoption agencies always need more loving families, it turns out there’s an even greater need for volunteers to cuddle and care for these precious babies who desperately need that one-on-one care.

“Agencies are not exactly the best funded today, so volunteers are more important probably than they have ever been,” Adam Pertman, president of the National Center on Adoption and Permanency, told ABC News. “All agencies over the years have certainly needed volunteers but … the need has grown. Volunteers have become more and more essential.”

Before being assigned to a baby and taking them home for two to four weeks, volunteers need to pass background checks and home visits to ensure the babies are in a safe and loving environment.

Once approved, the volunteers are given everything they could possibly need for the babies. “We pay 100 percent of all the expenses [to care for the newborn],” Adam Cotumaccio, president of Spence-Chapin told ABC News. “We have a full clinic here where we have pediatricians. We pay for the transportation costs, diapers, even the car seats, as sometimes the volunteer may not have all of the equipment.”

“My job is to make the baby feel safe and loved 24-7. I hold them all the time. I talk to them. I sing to them. We play music. And I get so much joy and pleasure. I feel so good when I’m with an infant that I hope that it does … something for them, too,” Susan Singer said, who became a volunteer after her 22-year-old son died in a skiing accident and was looking for something to do that could fulfill her.
