This Pilot Has Rescued 5,000 Homeless Animals By Flying Them To The People Who Want Them

While shelters try their best to make sure every animal that walks through their doors gets placed with a loving forever home, yet nearly 2.7 million animals have to be put down each year in the United States because shelters run out of space.

Jeff Bennett, a retired pilot and owner of four incredible dogs, couldn’t stand the fact that so many innocent shelter animals were being killed because they couldn’t find homes fast enough, so he decided to put his unique skills to work to try and help these animals in a way that most people couldn’t

Rather than transport people, this pilot now volunteers with Pilots N Paws, a national nonprofit organization that provides free transportation for animals, so that more people have the opportunity to adopt animals that would normally be too far away.

Throughout his time with Pilots N Paws, Bennett has now flown 5,000 animals to loving homes. “I get a lot of satisfaction out of what I do,” Bennett said. “I get to see dogs completely shut down when I pick them up, and then come out of their shell at the other end after a two- or two-and-a-half-hour flight. I’ve seen it so many times now that there might be something to it — that dogs know they’ve been rescued.”

“It is all volunteer, so I can look at a posting and decide yes or no,” Bennett said. “Pilots want to be in the air, and I can do some good at the same time.” However, when bad weather makes flying impossible, Bennet takes to the road to do his job.

“I have the ability as I am retired and have a cargo van that I would scrap flights and drive 1,600 miles,” he said. “I have had a number of ground transports that way. The most I ever moved in my van was 126. It bothers me to know animals are going to get euthanized for lack of transportation. We have to keep things flowing so these animals don’t get euthanized for lack of space.”

Groundbreaking Cafe Lets You Play With Puppies While Sipping Your Coffee

If you’ve ever visited an animal shelter, you know how much shelters can feel like an animal prison rather than a temporary home, which is why so many animals struggle so show off their real personalities and instead look sad, anxious, and afraid.

To give these animals the chance they deserve, Sarah Wolfgang decided to open the first dog cafe in the United States where people can play and cuddle animals from local animal shelters while having some tea or coffee. For just $10, visitors get one drink and an entire 55 minutes of play time with lovable pups.

“The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to hang out with each other, away from overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups,” the cafe explained. “In addition to helping worthy pups find homes, we also offer the opportunity for people unable to have pets of their own to spend quality time with furry friends (and vice versa) without the commitment of adoption.”

The cafe is partnered with local shelters that send dogs who would be overlooked in a shelter setting, and would benefit the most from the social interaction. And should a patron get attached to one of the adorable dogs, they are all available and ready for adoption. “Our whole adoption process can take up to a month. We understand that this is a lengthy process, but this ensures that our dogs go to homes that are 100% ready to make a lifetime commitment to their new four-legged family member,” the Los Angeles-based cafe explained.

“When visitors see our dogs here with us, they see them in their true light,” Wolfgang said.

Woman Powerfully Defends Her Small Engagement Ring After Years Of Comments

While love may not cost anything, diamond engagement rings certainly cost a pretty penny. Since a wedding band is the physical symbol of the love between two people, many generally think the bigger the ring the more the couple loves each other and the more successful their lives have been together.

For years, a Minnesota mom has been getting comments from well-meaning friends and family about the size of her engagement ring because they felt it was too small to possibly reflect the love and success she and her husband had achieved. “I’ve even had one person say ‘you could wear a bigger ring for important events, so people don’t think you’re not successful.’ Wait a minute…. Since when did the size of someone’s ring become an indication of success?!” Rachel Pederson wrote in a post on her Facebook page that his since gone viral.

When Perkins and her now husband met, she was a single mom and he was working as a window washer. The two met one night at a diner, and 13 days after they first met, the two eloped.

Pedersen’s husband had used his entire life’s savings to buy her the best engagement ring he could afford and surprised her with it before the ceremony. “My ring symbolizes a whirlwind, storybook, ‘make you sick’ love story…. It reminds me of how my husband and I met and fell at in love in one night at a Perkin’s diner.”

“He drained his savings to gift me with a small token of his love. I say small, only because it pales in comparison with how big his love is, even now, after years of marriage. That, my friends, is success to me,” Pedersen explained.

While being is new mom is incredibly challenging for the obvious reasons, one of the most difficult things is that everyone you know or meet will have an opinion on how you should be raising your child, and they won’t be afraid to tell you.

As if new moms didn’t have enough to handle, they often have to deal with people’s uncompromising views on how they feed their baby. If they don’t breastfeed their baby, they’re a failure, but if they breastfeed in public, they’re indecent. To help give new moms a judgment free feeding area, one Sydney cafe decided to open their doors to breastfeeding moms and even offer them a free cup of tea.

On their Facebook page, the cafe shared their inspiration for becoming a mother’s feeding haven after seeing another shop with this welcome sign. “This is soooo good!!! The Willows has to steal. 100% backing the breastfeeding Mummy’s!!!!”

A guinea pig might seem like an insignificant pet to most people, but for this Florida family, their pet guinea pig named Rodney is an integral part of the family.

However, Rodney’s short life nearly came to an end when the Waller family’s home was engulfed in flames. Thankfully, the Polk County Fire Department arrived at the scene quickly and Kristi Waller and her children got out of the house safely, but in their panic they left behind their beloved Rodney.

Fireman John Williams refused to leave Rodney behind, and put his own life in serious danger to rescue the family’s pet as he bravely entered the burning home.

Williams was able to save Rodney, but the guinea pig had inhaled so much smoke and needed emergency oxygen. At first, the rescue team struggled to find a suitable mask tiny enough for Rodney, but they improvised with a baby’s air mask.

“I’m so incredibly thankful for Polk County Fire Rescue for saving Rodney. They were very nice to him and myself,” Waller said. “I have the utmost respect for firefighters in the first place, but to see them care so much for something so small because of what he meant to our family was truly moving.”

Cows Have An Adorable Reaction When Exposed To Music

‘Sophisticated’ might not be the first word you think of to describe farm animals like cows who spend their days munching on grass, but it turns out we’re not the only ones in the animal kingdom who appreciate the arts.

Researchers at the University of Leicester first discovered cows’ appreciation for music back in 2001, when they found that cows who were exposed to relaxing music produced 3% more milk because the relaxing music put them in better, more relaxed moods. To see how cows would react to different instruments, three Cleveland-based musicians played the violin, guitar, and oboe for cows Kayli, Maybelle, Mike, and Maribeth.

When exposed to music, most animals show no signs of interest, but these four cows were instantly curious when they heard music from across the field, and immediately went over to investigate.

Incredibly, the cows walked right up to the fence, and even the shyest cow of the group got as close as possible. After listening to the different instruments, the cows stunned the musicians when they started swaying along and brushing their tails to the music.

Figuring out the reason why a newborn won’t stop crying seems like an impossible task for a new mom, but luckily this mom has some help from her crying baby’s twin sister.

After laying her six-week-old twins down for bed one evening, mom finally left the room when she thought her babies were about to fall asleep. Moments after she walked out of the room, however, her infant son began to cry. But after spending nearly nine months cooped up with her fussy twin brother, this weeks-old little girl knew just what to do.

Mom rushed back to try and calm her baby boy so they could finally get some sleep, but when she got there, she stood back and watched for a moment as she noticed her baby girl was already working on it. “My six week old fussed when I went in the other room so his twin sister took care of the situation,” mom captioned the video.

Firefighters have truly seen it all, from rescuing scared kittens from trees to resuscitating tiny guinea pigs, but even this firehouse thought they were being pranked when they received a call for an emergency rescue.

For firemen, getting a call to rescue a kitten stuck in a tree isn’t all that unusual, however, getting a call to rescue a 120-pound Great Dane stuck 20 feet up a tree is. “Dispatch was like, wait a minute, you have a what in a tree?” owner Wes McGuirk said.

When Wes first got home, he couldn’t find his very large Great Dane named Kora anywhere, but while searching for her he heard a strange whimpering noise from a tree and when he looked up, he spotted Kora nearly 20 feet up the tree. “I was like, how on earth did you get up there?” Wes said. “We grabbed the ladder. I thought I could climb up there, but I could only get to the center and was like, there’s no way I’m passing that, so we called the fire department.”

The Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department still couldn’t believe what they were hearing but were stunned when they saw the terrified Great Dane. “We rolled in and we all looked out the driver’s side window and went yeah, there’s a dog up that tree and it’s a big one,” said Jon Hardy of the Plattsmouth Fire Department.

Kora, who was now shivering and very anxious, refused to move from her spot, so finally the firemen managed to get a harness around her and were able to lift her from her spot and catch her with a tarp. “It’s one of those that we’ll talk about down here for a long time,” Hardy said.

Strangers Help Breastfeed A Baby When Mom Was In The Hospital

While many mothers prefer to breastfeed their child over giving them formula in a bottle, there are a number of different issues that can make breastfeeding impossible, not to mention dangerous for the baby.

After months of almost exclusively breastfeeding her 11-month-old son Rio, single mother of two Ronja Wiedenbeck panicked when she was suddenly unable to feed her baby because she had gotten sick and was put on strong medications. Since Rio was not comfortable with drinking from a bottle, Ronja panicked that her son would not have food.

Desperate for help, Ronja turned to the Breastfeeding Yummy Mummies Facebook group and asked if any moms would be willing to feed her son while she was in the hospital. “I was pumped full of morphine and it seemed instinctive for someone to feed him in a way that he has been used to and he’s comfortable with,” Ronja said.

Moms instantly reached out to offer their help, and within an hour, the first mom Leigh Ann Fearn arrived to feed Rio. “So much support it’s brought me to absolute tears. I cant express how grateful I am, that this super mum was happy to feed my son when I’m currently totally unable,” Ronja wrote in a post to Facebook.

“I thought it might feel unusual because it is something special that only Rio and I had shared, but it just felt totally instinctive for another mum to help him in a way he was used to,” Ronja said.

Her post in the 13,000 member group amazingly received about 1,000 offers to help feed Rio, and ultimately five different women helped feed him until Ronja was finally released and cleared to breastfeed again.

Getting a puppy means committing yourself to years of constant care as well as always putting its needs above your own, which is what one Hawaii couple was prepared to do for their Golden Retriever pup who was meant to live for 10-12 years.

Yet when Corryn and Alex Martin brought their 3-month-old puppy named Lily in for what should have been a standard check-up, a veterinarian discovered Lily had renal dysplasia, a fatal kidney disorder. The doctor gave them two options: they could either put her down or even return her to the breeder. But the couple had a better plan.

“Euthanizing her was never an option for us. She’s like our baby, so we began forming a plan,” Corryn said. After talking with specialists and doing their research, Corryn and Alex began creating the ultimate puppy bucket list to help Lily live her short life to the fullest.

So far, the Lily has accomplished a lot on her list including enjoying time on the beach, going for an exciting boat ride, and even sipping on a Starbuck’s puppucino.

It’s been a few months since her original diagnosis, but Lily is doing better than anyone expected. “She’s surprised everyone and has maintained her numbers for now. In fact, she’s doing very well. Her energy level is good, she’s eating well, and she’s very happy,” Corryn said.

As the days go by, Lily is crossing off more and more items on the list, which now includes being trained as a therapy dog for kids getting chemotherapy and helping make them feel better for as long as she can manage.

If you’ve ever had a bad haircut or dye job, you know how important a hair stylist’s job is in making people feel confident and beautiful. Yet when this pregnant woman walked into a hair salon one day, she entrusted her hair stylist with not just her hair, but with delivering this life-altering news.

After making it through her first term of pregnancy, Amanda Parrish decided to finally find out the sex of her unborn baby like many expecting mothers. However, unlike many expecting mothers, she decided to have her hair stylist rather than her doctor tell her if she was going to be having a boy or a girl

Amanda tried to stay as calm as possible as her hair stylist Amber Sacrison applied dye (blue for a boy and pink for a girl) to her long hair, without having any clue which color was being applied. Sacrison first suggested dying only a small strand for the reveal, but Amanda boldly decided to dye her entire head.

Finally, after having to close her eyes for almost the entire treatment, Amanda lost patience and couldn’t bear the suspense any longer. “I’m not closing my eyes again. I’m not doing it,” Amanda said in the video as Sacrison was about to remove the towel and reveal her new hair color.

Seconds later, Sacrison finally revealed that Amanda would soon be welcoming a baby boy to the world, and last week, nearly six months after the big reveal, she finally gave birth to that healthy baby boy.

This Tiny Chick Was Going To Be Put Down, But These Heroes Gave Her A Cast Instead

People will go to extraordinary lengths to make sure lovable pets like dogs and cats get the best care should they need it, however, farm animals like chickens usually don’t get the same consideration.

Originally, teachers from the Mary Kay McMillin school in New Jersey had contacted a local farm to get unhatched chick eggs, which they planned to keep in the classroom after witnessing them hatch as class pets. But soon after the chicks hatched, they realized a school classroom was no place for growing animals, especially since one chick was born with a bad leg that required extra care.

Thankfully, Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary stepped up to take two of the chicks since the teachers had become attached to the babies and refused to send them to a farm where they would be abused or even killed. “To me, it’s like having a puppy birthing project in your classroom and sending the puppies back to the puppy mill,” said Gabrielle Stubbert, president and co-founder of the animal sanctuary.

“Peeps was born with a slipped tendon, and her leg sticks out at a weird angle, almost as if it’s broken,” Stubbert said. “Nobody was willing to take her.” Peeps would have been killed had she landed in a normal farm, but luckily Stubbert took her in, and even brought her to the vet to get her leg checked out.

Photo by Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary

After getting multiple opinions on Peeps’ leg, Stubbort and her team decided Peeps would have the best quality of life if her bad leg was amputated. “Our local vet thought Peeps was a great candidate for amputation since she was perfectly healthy in every other way,” Stubbert said.

After the surgery, Peeps was immediately walking better and was no longer in any pain. “By this time, everybody had fallen in love with her. She has a huge personality,” Stubbert said. “She’s just really sweet. She falls asleep in the arms of her caretakers. You can’t not fall in love with her.”

Any dog owner has questioned at one point or another if their dog can actually feel how much they are loved, and if they are reciprocating that love, but this absolutely incredible story is proof that dogs love their companions- and will do just about anything to be with them.

Two years ago, Debi Petranck lost her beloved black and white pug-nosed terrier named Zeus and immediately reported him missing in Ocala, Florida. Despite her constant searching, Debi never saw or heard anything about him again, and eventually she had to come to terms with the fact that he was gone forever.

Yet last week, about 2 years later and more than 1,000 miles away, the Dearborn Animal Shelter in Detroit found the lost pup, and discovered that he had been found and adopted by a man in Florida that later moved him to Michigan.

After the move, Zeus escaped from his new owner, and walked to Detroit. The shelter immediately contacted Debi, who jumped in her car and drove the entire 1,000 miles to finally get her best friend back.

“My main worry, I didn’t know if Zeus would know me or not, but he walked in and knew … he recognized me from right off,” Debi said. “Everything’s just the way we left it. We’ve just picked right up where we were.”

Little kids grow up watching and listening to stories about superheroes and idolize the brave people who risk their own lives to protect the innocent from the evil in this world. So when a 2-year-old little boy spotted these real life superheroes, he did the first thing that came to mind.

After landing at the airport late one night in Houston along with the UNC men’s basketball team, passengers were greeted by a line of on-duty soldiers each holding giant American flags. Yet unlike the other kids who were too shy and afraid to approach the intimidating soldiers, 2-year-old Sawyer ran straight towards them.

At first, Sawyer was only going to say hello to one of the soldiers, but after shaking hands with the first, he decided he couldn’t just ignore the rest.

As a parent, it’s impossible to keep a watchful eye on your kids at all times, but you just have to be there to help them get out of any sticky situation that you weren’t able to prevent while your back was turned.

After watching his four-legged brothers and sisters stick their heads through the fence for a better view of the lawn, little Joey decided to try the same thing. However, unlike the dogs, Joey’s head wouldn’t slide back out with ease.

After being trapped with his head stuck between the fence posts, Joey’s parents finally came out to check on their mischievous son. Dad immediately came to his son’s rescue, but no matter how much he tried to help his son slide out, nothing worked.

Hero Marine Alive Today Thanks To His Service Dog: Wants Every Veteran To Have The Same Chance

Here at LifeDaily, we’ve shared countless stories of lucky soldiers and veterans who are alive today because of their loyal service dogs, but many more soldiers are forced to try and cope on their own because being paired with a service dog can be a complicated and costly ‘luxury’ that many can’t afford.

Despite the overwhelming amount of soldiers who have been saved by their loyal service dogs after struggling to cope with the invisible trauma leftover from the battlefield, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs refuses to acknowledge how effective service dogs are for preventing suicide and relieving PTSD symptoms. In 2012, the VA decided not to support or provide service animals as there wasn’t enough evidence proving their efficacy.

In 2012, the VA decided not to support or provide service animals as there wasn’t enough evidence proving their efficacy, but now one Marine veteran is speaking out before Congress as physical proof of the difference these dogs can make for a soldier with PTSD to get the VA to reconsider.

Cole Lyle, a Marine veteran who served in Afghanistan, suffered with severe PTSD after returning home and spent years on prescription sleep aids and antidepressants. When he started thinking about killing himself, he finally decided to try a medicine that didn’t come from a bottle, and instead had a furry tail, four paws, and a wet nose.

Photo by House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

Since service dogs are not provided by the VA, Lyle was forced to contact several nonprofit organizations, which placed him on waiting lists that had wait times of over a year. Lyle knew he didn’t have that much time without any support, and desperately spent his own $10,000 to purchase Kaya, his trained service dog.

Veterans with service dogs often stop needing their medications, have reduced night terrors, are able to handle anxiety better, and have fewer suicidal thoughts. For Lyle, Kaya helped his symptoms instantly. “The bad days are less frequent than they have ever been,” Lyle told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“I believe that allowing veterans to fight PTSD without all options available to them is tantamount to sending our military to fight an enemy without a secondary weapon in their arsenal,” Lyle said.

Every kid dreams of spending their school holidays on an exciting adventure in a tropical paradise rather than being stuck at home with nothing to do, but they don’t realize how much those epic adventures cost.

After her 9-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter begged her to do something fun over their school break, UK mom Lea Dobson tried to explain to her kids that those kinds of activities cost more than they could afford. Instead of sulking about not being able to go on a fun holiday, her son Ryan got to work.

“All of this came about because I was mainly telling his sister that school holidays don’t come cheap and she should think about how she could earn some extra pounds. Then the next thing Ryan went off into his bedroom and came back with this application letter.

“I was secretly quite pleased because it meant he was practicing his English during the school holidays – but then he said he wanted to drop it off at the shop, so I let him go through with it,” Lea said of her son’s application to a local dessert shop, Sweets and Treats Delivered.

In his application, Ryan wrote: “I would love to have a job in your store. Not just because it is a sweet store, because it is probably fun meeting happy cheerful people and helping them find tasty sweets. My idea is to get Sweets and Treats more customers, because more customers means more business.” Some of his ideas for attracting customers included giving samples out, and he also explained how he could work at the register as well.

“Sadly Ryan is just that little bit too young for us to employ – but we thought had great initiative and he will definitely go far when he grows up. However, he will be coming along on Sunday to judge our sundae competition,” owner Danielle Jaggers said.

“Ryan was told that they really need delivery drivers more than anything else, and he seemed fine with that as he knew he wasn’t old enough to drive. But for now he’s back to dreaming about becoming a footballer when he grows up, just like every other nine-year-old,” Lea said.

With the divorce rate as high as it is today, it seems like a milestone if couples can make it to their 10-year anniversary without splitting up. While most people believe true love is just a myth, one Australian couple is proving that true love is alive and well, and that nothing can break you apart when you do find it.

After first meeting at just eight years old, Bill and Glad Forward never could have imagined the life they would share together, but since falling in love as teenagers, the two have raised a family, welcomed grandchildren into the world, and managed to keep their love alive even after 53 years of marriage.

However, Bill started noticing something was off with his life partner nearly 10 years ago, and they soon found out Glad has Alzheimer’s disease. Though Glad’s symptoms started to worsen, Bill refused to abandon the life they built together and became her constant caretaker.

“I don’t count it a burden whatsoever,” Bill said. “I count it a great privilege to care for this one I have loved all these years and continue to love. She’s my princess and I’m her William and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

While Glad was no longer capable of riding her own bike during their weekly bike rides, which they had done for years, Bill had a special bike made that allowed her to sit comfortably while he peddled. But recently, Glad’s vision began to deteriorate, and she is now fully blind. Despite everything, Bill continues to take her out on their bike rides.

“When we’re on the bike she can hear and can feel the wind in her hair, all those things are really nice for her,” Bill said. “If the weather is good, and I can, I like to go for a ride at least three times a week.

Older dogs who end up in shelters often get overlooked for their age. While they might have a few more gray whiskers on their snout and might be a little bit slower than a fresh-faced puppy, they have just as much love to give.

Senior cocker spaniel mix, Scooby, had spent his entire life making his owner happy, but when his elderly owner passed away, Scooby found himself in a shelter competing for adoption with puppies and 1-year-olds. No one wanted him because he looked too old and tired, so his shelter enlisted the help of Hollywood Rescue Grooming to give Scooby a fresher, younger look.

Not only was Scooby much older than the other rescue dogs, which hurt his chances of getting adopted, but he was also anxious and afraid after losing his owner and being trapped in a lonely cage. But once Hollywood Rescue Groomers got their hands on him, he was completely transformed.

Scooby looked fresh and clean after his transformative trip to the groomers, and soon after was chosen to train for a program that helps prison inmates.

Dad Writes An Emotional Letter To His Daughter With Down Syndrome On Her Wedding Day

New parents dream of all the things their children will one day get to experience like meeting friends, falling in love, and one day even having kids of their own, but, for many, those dreams get ripped away if their child is born with a disability.

When one father found out his daughter had been born with Down syndrome, he was crushed that there would be things she may never get to experience. “When you were born and for years afterward, I didn’t worry for what you’d achieve academically. Your mum and I would make that happen. We’d wield the law like a cudgel if we had to. We could make teachers teach you, and we knew you’d earn the respect of your peers. What we couldn’t do was make other kids like you. Accept you, befriend you, stand with you in the vital social arena,” dad Paul Daugherty wrote in a letter to his daughter Jillian.

“We thought, “What’s a kid’s life if it isn’t filled with sleepovers and birthday parties and dates to the prom?” I worried about you then. I cried deep inside on the night when you were 12 and you came downstairs to declare “I don’t have any friends.”

Despite dad’s worries and the limitations the world put on Jillian, she managed to make friends, play sports, go to college, and even fall in love. A decade ago, Jillian’s now husband, Ryan, walked up to the family’s front door asking for Paul’s permission to take Jillian to the homecoming dance. In that moment, every worry Paul had completely vanished.

Now on his daughter’s wedding day, Paul shared his touching letter as proof that a disability doesn’t mean having an incomplete life. “Now … look at you. You’re the nicest person I know. Someone who is able to live a life of empathy and sympathy and without agendas or guile, is someone we all want to know. It worked out for you, because of the person you are,” Paul wrote.
